Interesting article about Amish births and VBAC

Re: Interesting article about Amish births and VBAC

  • This really got me.

"In 2010, a National Institutes of Health analysis showed that 3.8 maternal deaths occurred for every 100,000 VBACs, whereas 13.4 deaths occurred for every 100,000 repeat C-sections."

I need to hammer this point into MH's head!

  • I wonder what percentage the author means when writing "most" ECV were successful. I've never had one but I don't see how the Amish ECV rate should be any higher than the rest of the population.

But overall I think the article shares much of the sentiment of Ina may's book.

The way I read the part about ECVs was just that an ECV was tried before resorting to an automatic C/S or a breech vaginal birth (which they weren't really clear on whether this was an option or not) whereas here, sometimes an ECV isn't even attempted and mom is automatically sectioned.  Just how I read it anyway.

I agree with you about the Ina May thing though.  It struck me as interesting because I'm pretty sure at The Farm their C/S rate is like 4% (obviously the C/S are transferred).

I agree.  Most doctors don't even offer nor attempt an ECV.
