Need a new car recommendation for 4 children....

We have a 2.5 yo and a 4 yo and are now expecting twins.  I have an SUV right now  that has a 3rd row but we will not be able to fit a double stroller or anything behind the 3rd row.  We will have 3 in carseats and my oldest will be in a booster by that point.  Any Suggestions?  Minivan or are there roomy SUV's.

  • I vote for the Minivan.  I 'm not sure how easy it is to get in/out of the 3rd row in an SUV, but I know that the minivan's with the two captains chairs in the middle make it easier to get to the 3rd row (one of the seats folds over and slides forward, or since the kids are still small, they can go in front of the captains chair and thru the middle of them.

I have seen the Ford Flex briefly (uncle rented it once), and it seems to have a lot of space for an SUV.  It's pretty wide, you could easily fit three across comfortably in the middle.  Not sure how the 3rd row or subsequent storage stacks up.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • I had a GMC Yukon when the twins were born.  Three weeks later - I traded it in for a Yukon XL - and I LOVED it...however, older DS (10 years) was having to climb over middle seat to get to the back since he really didn't want to sit in between LOs!  So, this past June we traded it in on new Chevrolet Suburban with the bucket seats in the middle row and I LOVE it!  Don't think I'll ever go back to a bench seat in the middle!  It has sooo much room!!!  Yes, it sucks a little more gas than a mini-van, but I just could never make myself drive a mini-van...

  • We just went thru this and ended up with the odyssey. Planned to get tahoe but the price was too high. Couldn't beat the deal we got.

  • We've researching for the past couple of months.  We also have a 3rd row in our SUV now but there will be no trunk space (not to mention it won't be as safe; if someone hits you from behind, the kids are right there).  We narrowed it down to the Ford Expedition EL and the Suburban.  Both have captain chairs in the 2nd row.  We're leaning towards the Expedition.

  • We have the Expadation EL with the bench in the middle but we have 4 in carseats. Right now with the trio still in baby seats we have 2 in the outbound seats in 3rd row and 1 behind passenger and our oldest in the middle of the 2nd row we flip the 3rd seat up and walk in the back. We have fit a triple stroller in the back. We love it we picked it over the suburban  due to 3 things 1 price the ford was cheaper, 2 the 3rd row was a bit bigger in Ford, 3 all the suburbans we saw had captains chairs which we did not want. Good luck finding a car I do miss my mini van but with my kids ages need more for you a mini van could work cause your orders could get in 3rd row and buckle we just had to climb over seats to much.

  • I had a SUV with a 3rd row (bought specifically b/c we were planning on having A baby) and we ended up trading it in for the Toyota Sienna.  I was dead set against a mini van and my husband is a real car lover so had a hard time.  We both think it was  absolutely the right move.  There are so many configurations of seats and trunk space.  It also gets better gas mileage than my SUV.
