Re: holidays

  • Thanksgiving, nothing at this point. Don't even have plans. We didn't even know if DH would be home in time.

I am hosting both sides for Christmas (different days, you don't put those two families together in the same room if you can help it, esp. with a grandbaby). So will have a bunch to make.

Luckily Thanksgiving is pretty small production for our families..so I don't have to do a whole lot...I just know once Thanksgiving is over..Christmas will be here so fast! and I always have lots to do for Christmas.

  • I am supposed to make a dessert, haven't settled on anything yet though.

  • My mom does the heavy lifting (turkey, stuffing, potatoes), so I'm only bringing mac & cheese.  I may also bring a yam/sweet potato dish, since my cousin who usually makes it won't be able to come this year.  If anyone has an awesome yam/sweet potato recipe....send it my way!

  • Thanksgiving over the last few years has kind of been a bust in my family.  We usually wind up going to my brother and SIL's, but they split up this year, so that's not an option.  Our older kids are spending Thanksgiving with their mom, plus DF has to work and won't be home until around 4, so we would miss celebrating anywhere else.

I'm going to surprise DF with a Thanksgiving for the three of us since he thinks we don't have plans.  I'll be doing baked butternut squash (so LO can eat right alongside us), a small-ish turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and biscuits.  The hard part is going to be figuring out how much to make, since I'm used to cooking these things for an army!

Oh and of course pies ... pies are my weakness ... I usually make 5 or 6 (pumpkin, apple, pecan, cherry, chocolate, and sweet potato) ... I'll probably only make 2 since it's us

Im a little behind too. We go to my parent's every Thanksgiving (they live in our town) and I just make all the desserts. Im actually more nervous about baking for my son's Thanksgiving feast at his preschool next Tuesday. There are several allergies in his class so I am trying to figure out two foods to bring that everyone can eat BESIDES carrot sticks. lol

I recommend hopping over to the Food Allergy board and asking for a few suggestions.  Most of those moms have experience making allergy-friendly/kid-friendly foods.

  • Thanksgiving is just the three of us this year, so not too much. One of our churches sells turkeys as a fundraiser, so we'll get one of those. Other than that, I'll make green chili green bean casserole, stuffing, and a lemon merengue pie for DH. Hopefully it will all be yummy!

  • We go to my parents and the in laws for Thanksgiving dinner. I will be bringing 7layer salad per my mothers request. This is actually the first year she has requested me to bring anything. Lol! I'm a horrible cook
  • We are going to my parent's and they are vegan so we are turkey-less this year. Thankfully my DH is a good sport. I need to come up with something yummy to make him for the rest of the weekend!
