Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Dr. Browns bottles

Hello all, my LO just turned 3 months but she is a very good eater. She eats 6 oz of formula 5 times a day with no spit ups. Lately it seems that she is falling asleep during every feeding and the feedings are taking 35-45 min when they typically were 15-20min. She also seems to be sucking a little harder on the nipple, which I think is pacifying her and making her tired. Do I need to switch to the level 2 nipple? I don't know when to make that switch.

Re: Dr. Browns bottles

  • I hate those bottles.  There are too many pieces and DS hates them too.  The nipples are like the size of a penny! LOL

Use tommee tippee.  They are awesome!  level 2 nipple for 3-6 months

  • I don't have the Dr. Brown bottles, but for the avent and similac bottles, we made the switch to the next nipple level at about 3 months.

He was collapsing the nipple, so we move him up a level and he was much more content.

You could always try it at one feeding and see how it goes.

  • Thanks. I think it is time for the next nipple size too but I wasn't sure when to do it. Thank you for telling me 3-6 mo. My doctor was really vague when I asked him.
  • Sounds like it is time for you to switch her. I upgraded at about 11 weeks. I would suggest buy one set of the level 2s try it and see if it gets better and if it does than go ahead and switch all of the nipples

  • I use Dr Browns bottles and we switched to level 2 nipples a little before 3 months. I noticed it was taking longer for feedings and my LO's would get upset because the formula was coming out to slow.

  • FWIW, the Level 2 nipples say 3 months. If you have the wide neck ones, replacing the nipple is ridiculously pricey...6 dollars for 2 nipples! We switched from Dr.Browns because we handwash them and mold was developing in all the little spots on the beige piece that were impossible to get to. I agree with PP...way too many parts. We switched to Avent.
