How many of you ladies use a white noise machine at night for when LO sleeps? We recently moved C to his nursery from the cradle in our room but he seems to be sleeping shorter stretches in his crib than he was in the cradle. I am wondering if now that he switched rooms he is missing the sound of the fan that we have in our room and maybe a white noise machine will help. Have you noticed a big difference in how LO sleeps when using white noise vs not using anything?

We've always used one...even when he was in our room. I don't think we'd be able to function in the house while he's sleeping without it.
ETA: I'd go with a sound machine over a fan because it is easy to travel with and you don't have to worry about safety issues once they are mobile. We have a tower fan in the room too during the summer, but he tries to stick his fingers in it and pull it over every chance he gets.

We have the Homedics Sound Spa and love it. I have no plans to get rid of it. We originally got it to block out noise from our dogs and just noise in general because we were living in a small house. Now that we've moved we still use it.
We had the Sleep Sheep at first but I didn't like that it shut off after 45 minutes and we had to keep buying batteries. I like the sound machine we got because you plug it in and you can also use batteries for travel.

We have the sleep giraffe... Okay TWO giraffes. I swear by them! The white noise really helps!
We have an old creaky house and crappy single pain windows -- if we didn't have a white noise machine, DD would never sleep! I bought a really inexpensive one from Bed Bath & Beyond with one of their 20% off coupons, and it is great -- six sounds to choose from. You can set it on a timer or just let it run all night, and there's a battery backup for when power goes out (which was a life saver after the recent hurricane!). https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=13630208
We live in a NYC apt. - need I say more. DS has his own bedroom but it's still not a palace! The kitchen is right outside his room and if it wasn't for the white noise machine we'd be ordering take out every night. The white noise machine also for some reason was pivotal in getting him to sleep longer stretches.
We had the sleep sheep but the fact that it switches off defeats the purpose and creates a sleep problem IMO - they get used to having that to fall asleep, but then when they wake up for partial arousals during the night it's not on which leads to crying, needing mom, etc. W/ a white noise machine they wake up during the night and it can lull them back to sleep. We have the Brookstone one and you can plug it in or use batteries - it even worked when our power went out during the hurricane.
That said, it's a crutch. DH wants to get DS off of it.

We still use one. Always have. Our house is very old, hard wood floors, lots of creaking and nothing to absorb the sound. When we travel I have a white noise app on my phone that we use.
LO has a white noise machine in her room and it has worked wonders. It helps her sleep soundly all night. She used to get disturbed by H and I walking around outside her room... he works shift work and I would be up and out of the house early for work.
