2nd Trimester

Not feeling baby today.. should I be worried?

I am 19 weeks and a first time mom. I started feeling baby move last week, and baby is very active---especially when music is around! :)

Today, I am not feeling the baby move at all. I know this sounds silly, but last night my DH put all his body weight on me while we were having sex... I know this is probably fine, but it still has me concerned. There hasn't been any pain or bleeding; but I am still getting worried the longer the day goes on.

Anyone have some reassuring words for me? Am I just overthinking??

Re: Not feeling baby today.. should I be worried?

  • Probably just a slow day in your ute.  There have been plenty of days that I barely feel anything...and then other days he's moving all around.  You could drink or eat something surgary and see if that get "her" moving.  I wouldn't get really worried until it had been a solid 24 hours without ANY movement at all.  That's just me...

  • Eat something. Drink something cold that has sugar. It will take about 20 minutes to reach baby, and make him/her move.

I had one full day where I did not feel baby (pg#1) move, and I didn't even know it was something to worry about. I started feeling her move so late that the OB never talked about it. Everything was fine, but don't hesitate to call your OB.

  • I was having this same problem today and was about to post!! I started feeling frequent movement at 16 weeks (I am now 18 weeks), which my midwife says even me being a first time mom I probably felt it so early because of my very thin/petite frame. I have had a few times where I have felt a decrease in movement or no movement for like a day or maybe two and i PANIC. You shouldnt be worried, I have been told that we usually arent expected to feel real frequent movement until about 20 weeks or later. I have heard some women who are about 23 weeks and have went a few days without feeling anything. Today, I was panicking again whenever I havent really felt much last night (at babies most active part of the day) and not really anything today. I drank a cold coke and laid on my side and still NOTHING. Just as I was logging onto this site to freak out in a post baby gave a pretty small but noticeable kick :) I guess everyday is just different until we get further along. Some babies dont respond to things that others do either. If your LO is anything like mine, its a stubborn little thing and will only move when it wants! It might just also be a sleepy day. If you get too worried after too long just call your OB or midwife and they will tell you whether or not you should be worried. It is too early to worry too much! But if you really feel like something isnt right, listen to your instincts. I think we are all just paranoid mommies. JOIN THE CLUB. Im glad I am not alone! I feel like a crazy person and sometimes get crabby and snippy with others when I am worrying about baby! :) I am sure you are fine! drink something cold or eat something sweet, relax, get quiet and lay on your left side and see if baby responds to that. Give it a few hours sometimes it takes a while. Dont worry :)
  • Thank you all SO much!! Off to eat some chocolate and see if LO will move around for me!  :)
  • You're still pretty early to have consistent movement. I didn't start feeling him everyday until about 26 weeks or so. I didn't even realize I was feeling movement until around 21 weeks.

  • At 19 weeks its normal, not to feel baby move everyday. Around 26-28 weeks you should feel baby moving everyday!

  • Today must be lethargic baby day.  My LO hardly moved at all today, too.  I'm not terribly worried because I know that inconsistent movement is okay right now.  I just shook my belly a little bit and she poked at me a bit, so that made me happy. :)

Also, I felt zero definite movement (more than flutters) until about 21w.

  • Baby is still small enough that there will be days when you can't feel baby move as much just because of position.  I'm sure everything is fine.
  • At only 19w, it's totally normal to not feel baby every day.

  • I know every says don't expect consistent movement until 28 weeks but after feeling baby every day for 17~ weeks, if I had not felt anything for a long time I would be worried too. That being said baby is still pretty small and you might not be noticing their movements. When I had my a/s at 19 weeks I could feel some movement but not as much as he was making on the screen. Try a cold sugary drink and laying on your left side (or back, where I feel LO the most) and be as still and quiet as possible.
