Registry

Quick question for all of you ladies that have registered already....how many items did you put on there? And did you stop putting things on there after a certain age of the baby?

I tried to put things on there to last from birth up until 6 months, but not sure if I should have gone to a year?

Re: Registry

  • I went up to 6 months.  Most registry guidelines say 12 months but that is so much stuff.   I think 6 months is a good mark as it keeps your registry with plenty of price points without seeming greedy.

Also the rule of thumb I used with my registry is was it something I was going to focus or worry about buying before the LOs arrived.  If it wasn't I left it off.

  • I did a year, I focused more on the first 6 months, but if i thought I could use it in the first year I added it.

  • I'm not sure I'd say we have an age range, since we didn't bother registering for much in the way of clothing, just a handful of onesies from ThinkGeek.  We figured enough people would be excited to buy little girl clothes that there wasn't munch sense in putting anything on the registry.  But everything we have on there is something we'd at least *start* using within the first 6 months.

The invitee list for the shower is pretty long (I think around 50 people), so I have about 100 items on there in a variety of price ranges.  I'm keeping on eye on it, because if all of the less-expensive things start getting bought up, I'll probably add some of the inexpensive "we were planning on buying this ourselves" type of items, just so people have options.

  • I didn't go into it with a time frame in mind.  We just added items that we need and want.  Thinking about it now, I probably went up to 12 months with our items.  I skipped a lot of the toddler feeding necessities.  (Although I did register for a few of those)  And we didn't register for many clothes.  Just a few packs of one piece sleepers, socks and gowns for newborn to 12 months.

  • I have two registries, with a total of 55 items, with 27 of the items being less than $10. I am having 4 showers, and will update our registries between showers (we have at least a week or more between each shower).  We are looking at adding more but have been very blessed with hand me down items from my two sisters and SIL.  We don't need any larger items and have too many of a lot of stuff.  The 55 items on our list range from newborn to 1 year, with most of the one year stuff being eating/food related.  We didn't put clothes because we have giant 13 gallon tubs (2 for each size range) full of clothes that is all new or barely worn, newborn all the way up to 2t.  Plus, Im' sure were will get more, because people love to buy baby clothes. The items we put on our list are mostly essentials that we will buy regardless.  If our registry starts to get cleared or certain price ranges disappear we will add more nice to have items, like books toys and room decor, but for now we are keeping it very practical.

  • We registered for mostly up to 6 months, but some things go up to 12.  We have about 115 items on one of our registries and about 30 items on the other.

  • We have registered at two places and have about 60 items, but I have some on reserve (Amazon wish list) that are more in the 6-12 month in case the lists start to get picked over.  We do have some pretty big items on there, but tried to have small ones as well.  I only put a few clothes items and did not put any breastfeeding items on there just as a personal preference.
