Birthday celebration

I'm finally back from vacation.  We left on what should have been Corbin's first birthday.  Before we left, we went to visit him at the cemetery and met DH's family there (they live close, mine does not).  We sang Happy Birthday, left him gifts, launched balloons and ate chocolate cupcakes.  DH's mom bought every monkey birthday party favor she could find so we were all wearing monkey hats and noise makers.  It was the first time our niece and nephews had visited Corbin (ages 6, 5 and 4).  They made some really sweet comments, asked really good questions, even a few funny ones (my 6 year old nephew touched his stone and said "what did he eat for dinner last night, ice?  it's so cold!" - (it was cold out that morning).  Overall it was a good day, got a bit choked up when the plane took off but I always do anymore.  Anyway, no real point to this, just wanted to share my son's first birthday party.

    Thanks for sharing! It sounded wonderful. I'm sure Corbin was smiling down on you. And that was an adorable comment from your nephew. Kids have a way of saying the best things.

    I was thinking about you the other day and was curious when you would be back! How was your vacation?

    (((hugs))) and welcome back.  It sounds like you had a great celebration of Corbin's birthday. I read in one of your other posts that you lit candles for Corbin at the different churches on your vacation. I lit a candle at the Duomo for my dad last year. I remember how meaningful and special that was and can only imagine what it was like for you to do this for Corbin.

    What a beautiful tribute to sweet Corbin on his first birthday.  I know that our little angels were all celebrating with him that day too :)

    It sounds like you had a nice birthday celebration. Monkeys are so cute! ((hugs)) How was your vacation? It great to have you back!

    Vacation was absolutely wonderful!  Not very relaxing but incredible all the way around other than the night my dad decided to tell us "well it's time you guys move on and start living life again."  Um, we just spent a ton of money to go on this trip, I'm pretty sure we're "living life."  We lit candles in 4 different churches in 3 different countries for Corbin.  We started calling them "Corbie Candles".

    Sounds like a wonderful celebration. I'm glad the family came out to celebrate!

    Also glad you had a good vacation! You are certainly living life, but living life does not mean ceasing to grieve for your son. ((hugs))
