Can we use this??

Hello everyone! I need some FTM assistance. This weekend at my shower my mother gave me this beautiful item (bunting?) from a shop in NYC. The pic is below (and the brand is Jacadi, and it is called a carry nest). It was quite expensive and can only be returned to the NYC store (I am in PA). Inside the 'nest' are holes for straps to go through, so I am assuming it is meant for a carseat or a stroller. She said I came home in something like this (I am a Feb baby) so it would be similar.  My baby is due in January.


So my problem is... arent we NOT supposed to have anything between the baby and the car seat? the only material will be behind the baby's back, so the seatbelt straps will still have direct contact at baby's chest. A friend suggested just using it in the stroller, but by the time the baby is old enough to sit in the stroller seat without the carseat, it will be spring! So if you could please set me straight, that would be great.

    I can't tell from the picture how thick the material is. If it is very thick, I would avoid wearing it in the car seat.

    There definitely a filling. Not as much as a puffer coat.

    If there is any back to it, the answer is, no, not in a carseat. Definitely fine in a stroller.

    I wish they would stop selling things like this! Gah!

    I would use it in the stroller, you can always put the stroller fully reclined. Definitely not in the car seat, their should be nothing underneath baby, that didn't come with the car seat and thus safety tested with it. 

    Have you called the company to see if you could ship it back and get a refund of some kind?

    Thanks everyone! We will go up to NYC for a day and hopefully i will find something else just a nice/cute. i just cant budge on this issue.

    Good luck! If they have any other kinds of baby gear, maybe you can do an exchange for a shower cap style.

    I would use it in the stroller from the start and I would suggest making sure you have a stroller you can put an infant in. You definitely should not keep the baby in the car seat until the spring. That also is not healthy.

    If it is super thick then you shouldn't. We used the JJ Cole Bundle Me or a bunting similar to that from Target (it was decently thick and plushy but it squished down nicely so I wasn't worried about it in the car seat).

    Those aren't recommended either. Compression, especially with a newborn, is a safety issue. Precisely why it says in the instructions not to use products like this. Don't believe me, ask a tech (SuperCuteBenz is one, page her). The shower cap style does not interfere with the normal operation of the car seat, which is why it is recommended.

    As for using it in the stroller, I think it's okay to use it when the baby is in the car seat in the stroller, just not when the car seat is in the car. That seems like it would be a bigger pain than it is worth though so I would probably return it.
