No sleep mommas

DS still wakes up to nurse every 1.5-2 hours all night long. He has never slept longer. Sad Anyone else in this position?

Am I crazy to think he will just drop some feedings when he is ready? He goes down easy and stays sleeping with the exception of being hungry.

I just don't know because I don't know a single person IRL going through the frequent night wakings, especially at 5 months old.  I've been very laid back about the whole thing, kind of just accepting it. But not knowing anyone else with this situation makes me wonder if we are not doing something we should be.

Re: No sleep mommas

  • We are on the same boat. LO seems really hungry when she wakes up so I am accepting it. She used to STTN before, so I hope she will again sometime.

  • Yep they will eventually go longer and longer stretches.  Do you co-bed?  It saved my sanity w ds.  In retrospect he had dairy and gluten issues so idk if he would have slept longer if they weren't in his system. ( less gas, tummy upset, etc)

  • My LO has been a good night sleeper but wanted to eat every 2 hours during the day until a few days ago. All of a sudden he has changed to going 3-4 hours before wanting to eat more. It happened after a two week period of waking a lot at night to eat, so maybe he just finished a longer growth spurt or developmental bump.

I know two mothers who had LOs who were up every 2 hours for 2 years. I do hope your LO outgrows it sooner than that. You don't see teenagers needing to wake up every 2 hours to eat, so it has to end eventually. I have a gassy boy, so I just tell myself that you don't see teenagers who scream every time they have to fart, so they eventually learn to process gas.

I'm sorry that none of that really helps you now other than to know that you're not alone and it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. It can also change very quickly. Sending good sleep vibes your way....

We used to but when he hit around 3 months he started trying to stay awake because I was nearby. So I pretty much have to put him in his crib to get any sleep. It sucks though because getting up and walking over there is no fun!
  • DD's sleep is all over the place. We have the same exact routine every night, so I'm not really sure what's going on. At 3 months, she had 2 weeks where she slept 6 hour stretches. Then from 3.5 months on, she was up every 1 to 2 hours. Last week she had two nights were she had 6 hour stretches again. Now back to waking every 3 hours.

We start her off in her crib for her long stretch, then bring her into our bed for the rest of the night. No advice, but I think it will get better!

  • I'm going through the same thing, only I don't think he's actually hungry that often, he's just used to nursing to sleep. Our big problem now is that he won't sleep in his crib, only with me.

  • My DS was waking every 2-3 hours at night to eat up until a week ago. He's only been getting up once a night now. I don't know if it's because I started giving him oatmeal or because he started rolling over by himself to sleep on his belly.

If you're waiting to start solids, could you try letting your DS sleep on his belly? I hope this get better for you soon.

  • He has been getting solids for about a month now, by originally was a tummy sleeper. Maybe I should try to make him sleep without his swaddle. Tried a few weeks ago and he would not sleep!

This - DS had been doing this for months up until 2 nights ago.  I stopped nursing him to sleep everytime he woke up - good way to create a bad habit and I was afraid I already had.

I have been giving him a good amount of cereal mixed w/ formula about an hour or so before bed then nursed him to sleep.  He did wake the first night about 2 hours after I put him down so I knew he wasn't hungry, gave him his paci and left my hand on his back for awhile till he went back to sleep.  Then he didn't wake until 2am to eat. Last night he didn't wake at all until 3:30!!  YAY!!  FINALLY!! lol I probably shouldn't get too excited, but hoping we've turned a corner.

Anyway, maybe try the cereal thing and using a paci?  (took awhile for DS to take the paci, wasn't a big fan)

    Goodluck!  and you're not alone!

  • I was going through the same thing up until 2-1/2 weeks ago. My son was waking up 2-3 times a night, sometimes more, since he was born. I was about to crack!! Then one night 2-1/2 weeks ago he slept 9 straight hours out of nowhere, I was in shock! It lasted for 6 nights and then last week he began waking up once around 2 am and then sleeping 4 more hours after that. I did notice that he didn't seem hungry when he woke up at 2 and refused to eat. This was also when his 2 bottom teeth began to come in. Now ever since last Thursday he is back to sleeping 9-10 hours a night. I hope it sticks!

We have also been feeding him cereal and just started vegetables this week, I don't know if that is helping at all. The only downside to him sleeping longer is he is only catnapping during the day, I can not get a long nap out of him for anything. Is your little guy sleeping long stretches during the day and making him wake more during the night? My mom was also yelling at me for always feeding him when he woke up so much at night, she told me to just give him a pacifier and go from there. Maybe that will help too! Good luck to you, it can only get better!

I have been giving DS cereal, veggies, and fruit for a while now, and he is very hungry so it has made him happier, but not sleepier. I have tried to just replace his paci and that will not work. He screams like he is going to die unless I feed him lol. He also only catnaps during the day. most naps being 30-40 minutes. I think he is just a craptastic sleeper. I just wish I could fix it!!

  • I am in the same situation! Daytime catnaps and very frequent night time feedings! It started about 6 weeks ago and I have no advice.  Only sympathy.  I also hope that it passes soon.  I need some sleep!
