High chair recs?

Who has what, do you like it and why? Wish you'd gotten something else?

Thanks ladies. I realize deciding on high chairs isn't a life altering decision, but some days it's these little things that seem overwhelming. Or at least annoying.

Re: High chair recs?

  • We have the Boon Flair chairs. They are super easy to clean, lift up and down like a hairstylist chair [so they can be level at the dining table], and honestly, they look great in our kitchen!

  • With dd, we got the kind that attaches to your kitchen chairs. She used it until almost two years old. I think we have a fisher price and it was 25. We didn't want a huge high chair taking up space in our dining area.

  • IKEA, the white plastic ones.

love them, super super cheap, no nooks and crannies so very easy to clean, footprint not much larger than a regular chair, and fits into our modern decor.

  • My favorite has been the little booster with a tray that attaches to a regular chair. We have one of those and one regular highchair.

The high chair takes up so much space! I think for safety reasons the legs stick way out. We are forever running into them and kicking them. Plus, the little booster was only about $25.

  • We had the Graco wooden highchair with DS, so we're using that for one of the girls and a booster seat that attaches to a chair for the other. If we would've been purchasing both new, I would've def. gone with 2 boosters or space-saving stand alone chairs (FP Space Saver is a good one).

Whatever you choose, make sure the tray is easy to take off and clean in the sink.

  • We have two of the Fisher Price Space Saver high chairs that attach to chairs...we LOVE them!  We are terrible about eating as a family at the dining table cause DH works crazy hours...so often times we lay down a blanket and put the space savers on the floor in the living room and let them go to town - whatever mess falls on the blanket - we just throw it in the wash.  We didn't want huge high chairs because we have no extra space to store them...my LOs are nearly 20 months and we still use them daily.  They even sometimes sit in them and just chill...

  • Fisher price space savers!! We love them. Easy to clean and if you have to go to grandmas or somewhere, it's easy to toss them in the car. They're not super expensive and you can get replacement trays if you need.
  • Whatever kind you get, make sure it is easy to clean and has no nooks and crannies.  We started with the Chicco Polly with DS1 and I hated it.  We got a wooden one with DS2, but even it has some nooks.  Also, like someone else mentioned, try to get one where the tray comes off to wash.

  • I have had SEVEN different high chairs and finally found one that I actually like. It's called the Graco Simple Switch and it's relatively inexpensive too.

The Pasadena color is pretty and has a grey tray (I'm sick of tan baby stuff).

The Boon Flair is cool, but doesn't recline and is very expensive. When you want the babies to take their bottles while you cook dinner, reclining is a must.

Same with IKEA Ektorp chair- it doesn't recline and the tray isn't adjustable, meaning you can't push it in all the way to the babies' bellies. There's a huge gap between their bellies and the tray and that's where all the food goes and onto your floor (once they start eating finger foods).

The Fisher Price Space Savers are TERRIBLE. Too many nooks and crannies in the arm rests and there is a gap at the crotch buckle where ALL the crumbs and food land. Also, the arm thingies that the tray snaps on to are so tall that they make it impossible to push the chairs up to the table. Therefore, you end up having to pull the chairs with the Space Savers on them out to the side, and they end up taking up just as much space as a regular high chair would except you also LOSE valuable chair seating for adults.

  • I don't remember my exact model, but they are Graco with a soft cover, recline, adjustable tray, and tray cover. I hate them. They were fine when we were doing the feeding, but now that they feed themselves they are a mess.

The idea with the tray covers is that they go in the dishwasher and are easier to clean than the whole tray. This is true. But they are waaaay too easy to take off. The boys now throw that cover across the room, complete with food. So we never use them.

The soft fabric cover looks really comfortable. But food gets on and under it all the time. While it washes very well, there are four tiny elastic loops and two hooks per cover. They are a giant poison to put on. x2

The straps wash well but are a pain to remove and replace. Additionally, we ordered two of the same chair. They look exactly the same but have different manufacture dates. The buckle is different on the two, thus the straps are not interchangeable. A huge pain to get them straight after washing.
