How do YOU say Xavier

As far as I know, Xavier can be pronounced EX-zavier or ZAY-vier (sorry, I'm horrible at phonetic spelling). I'm pretty sure either one is correct.

If DC is a boy we are going to name him Xavier, but I'm not sure what our preferred pronunciation will be. At first I was saying it with a "z" sound at the beginning, but my mom's first inclination was to use the "x" sound. How do most people say it?

I say Ex-zay-vier. I believe it can also be pronounced like Javier in Spanish - the x makes a Ha sound.

I've only ever heard it pronounced EX-avier, but I don't think the second one is incorrect at all, like Xylophone. If I saw the name I would pronounce it with the EX.

It's NMS, as in I wouldn't personally use it but I do like the name quite a bit. I do prefer the EX pronunciation but that could just be because I'm used to it.

I seem to be in the minority, but I'd say Zay-vier. I know a 3 year old with this name who pronounces it that way. X-avier makes me think of X-men.

Hmm... well, I didn't realize I did this, but I went to a Catholic school with the name St. Francis Xavier and I say it with the EX in front (it was pronounced this way by everyone). But when it's someone's name I say it ZAY. I don't know why that is!

EX-zavier I think is the proper way? Whatever that means but we have a local university named after a Saint and that's how you say the saint's name.

I think it's typicall pronounced with the 'Ex' but when I first read it my reaction was to pronounce it with a 'Z'.

I say it Zay-vier. I've never heard anyone use the X sound, but judging by the other responses you've gotten it might be a regional thing.

When I first saw it I said Zay-ve-ur but then I thought "professor Ex-av-ier"... So I think either way is acceptable. Just depends on what you want YOU want you son to be called.
