If you hit the 1-hr mark when nursing...

If you hit the 1-hr mark when nursing...

and LO is STILL hungry, what do you do? Just keep going?

Offer pumped milk or formula?

I nursed DS half an hr on the left and then half an hr on the

right and he's still crying and sucking his hand. I feel like he

sucked me dry though. Just trying to hydrate and have DH

hold him off so I can catch a little break. He won't take a

paci either.

  • I have my husband take him for awhile. I give him about ten minutes and if he is still acting hungry I put him back on. Even if there is nothing there the sucking will stimulate your milk supply.

  • This is me today ! LO has been nursing for 2 hrs straight and seems completely unsatisfied : . I'm at my grandparents and don't have my freezer stash or else I would be feeding him some pumped milk to satisfy him !

This is me too but sometimes it is more like 30 minutes. This hasn't happened for a while though - maybe your LO is having a growth spurt? I swear the 6 week growth spurt nearly killed me.

Yep. That, and we all have colds at home, even LO. He barely ate much all morning and afternoon (I don't think he was feeling well), but has been cluster feeding and eating all night to make up for it. But holy hel!, my poor breasts. Our 4 week growth spurt was ugly- I'm hoping this one isn't as bad.

  • My LO had been crazy cluster feeding at night and I'm having done major anxiety over it. I dread feedings. DD is 5 weeks today... I'm really not looking forward to 6 weeks. However, I'm trying to stay positive and just push through it.

Use your husband as much s you can. I couldn't do this without him. I was this close to giving up today and he kept me focused.

  • Haha. Errm, sort of. My milk supply is lowest in the evenings- obviously, and I'm trying to satisfy two. I had babies on boobies from 5pm until 8pm. At 8pm, I gave both babies to DH, told him to thaw milk and offer it an ounce at a time and not to disturb me until 10:30pm so I could go to bed. My poor nipples were begging for mercy. Tonight has been better.

If baby was miserable I'd offer pumped milk. If baby was content to nurse, I'd let him.

  • This is normal for us. About once every night he'll eat constantly for a long while.

I would assume baby is going thru the 6 week growth spurt and is doing their job to up my milk supply.nbsp; so I would take a quick break, drink some water, have a snack, go to the bathroom, while dh gets to swaddle, change and rock baby.nbsp; Then I'd find something else on tv to watch and keep switching sides until baby is satisfied.nbsp; at bed time I'd lay down and nurse.

Ditto to all this... I think with my first I regretted giving bottles because it satisfied baby but my supply never kept up. Baby in the boob even if it is annoying stimulates the body to make more milk. Take a mini break and just be a pacifier for the night. It'll pass...

  • I am so glad you posted this I thought my baby is the only one who does this. The other night it went on for two hours and I offered her an ounce of formula.
