February 2013 Moms

Too early for a class?

We are starting our childbirth classes tonight but I am only 25 weeks.  The class is 5 weeks long and I tried to wait for the next round but my midwife encouraged me to take this session because the next round goes into mid-February and ends only a week before my due date.  I am afraid I will be the only one taking the class so early along and the other women will think I am being silly.

Re: Too early for a class?

  • I really don't think its too early, I'm about and week and a half ahead of you but we also start ours tonight. Our class is 6 weeks long though.

  • I am 28 weeks and we have our Childbirth class starting this weekend. We had to do a fast track one that went over the course of a weekend because my husband doesn't get off of work in time to do the 6 week course. I don't think it's too early at all.

The good thing is you won't be 37 weeks pregnant and uncomfortable sitting in the class Wink

  • I don't think it's too early! We called last week and couldn't get into one until mid January (2 Saturday classes). I'm due mid-February and I'm worried it's too late!

  • We're taking a 12 week class but most of the moms in there are starting around the same time we are.  We'll be done 3 weeks before the EDD but better to get the important stuff out of the way early on.

  • I started mine 2 weeks ago and everyone in my class is either a Jan or Feb birth so I think it is fine.

  • Our class started in Oct, and is 7 weeks. I was 23 weeks when it started. Most of the people in the class are due in February, but there is one due end of March. I thought it was a little weird they were taking this class, but meh.
  • I felt the same way. We just finished ours and everybody there was due between December and February.
  • I'm 25 weeks and we start our birthing classes tomorrow night. I was worried we were doing it too early too but this is when it works with our schedule. Hopefully we remember everything we learn.

  • It's fine. With DD I started my 7-week class at about 23 weeks. Of the 7 women in the class, I was the EDD right in the middle - 3 before me, 3 after me.

BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
    BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

  • I took a BF class last Saturday and was the only one due in Feb, everyone else was due in Dec/Jan but it wasn't a big deal. I don't think anyone really noticed. I start my childbirth classes next Monday.

  • Not too early at all in my opinion. I just had mine last weekend and I'm relieved because with the holidays and the usual craziness the end of the year brings, I feel like next thing I know this baby will be here.

  • I started last night (25 weeks).  I was the least far along, but everyone else seemed to be between 33 and 27 weeks.  So, I'm not that far behind.  I had the same issue as you, it's a 5 week class, but the next round wouldn't end until mid-February, which is really too late.

They refer to "3rd trimester symptoms" a lot, but I'm already experiencing a lot of those symptoms anyway.  I think getting the information now is helpful.
