Insomnia is not helping!

Anyone dealt with insomnia lately, and if so, any helpful tips on overcoming it? I had been sleeping fairly well until now; going to the bathroom once or twice a night but falling back to sleep quickly. The last three nights I've been WIDE awake from 4-7am and no matter what I try I can't get comfortable and can't turn off my brain. I love all the helpful comments I've gotten like "better sleep now while you can" because, you know, I've chosen to lie awake instead of getting rest. This sleepy lady needs your tips!

Re: Insomnia is not helping!

  • I'll be watching this post. I am so tired I haven't slept well in weeks and I wish I could get a solid 8 hrs. before my little one comes! I have been emotional more than usual lately too, I'm ready for this to be a thing of the past.  I just need sleep.

  • I whip out the kindle and read silly books until I am ready to zonk out, and then take a nap in the afternoon.

However for me it hits about 1 or 2 am and it isnt until 3:30 or 4:30 that the tiredness hits and our alarm goes off at 5:30.

  • I've also been waking up between 4-5 and having a hard time falling asleep. Sometimes reading helps! That's about the only thing that has ever worked for me.

  • I have had them same thing. I read or play on the iPad. I have even thought of getting up and doing laundry but then I always talk myself out of it

  • I hear ya! I've been resorting to one unisom, what I have left over from morning sickness. But I try to go without it. It doesn't make me drowsy the next day either. Or I drink a big glass of chocolate milk I don't care for white milk and read until my eyes are burning. Making a list helps a lot too.

  • Tylenol PM. I rely on it sometimes up to 2 nights a week. I only take 1 and I feel like getting that good night's sleep almost take the pressure off for the next night. You know , like then you don't lay in bed saying 'ugh, I really have to sleep good tonight'.

I have been waking up around 3 am most days for the past few weeks. Sometimes I can fall back asleep, other times I watch a little tv, and I have actually gotten up and done laundry a few times. It never fails I usually fall back to sleep about 45 minutes before my alarm goes off and feel like I can't wake up with my alarm.

  • I get up and take a warm bath in the middle of the night. Then, I typically can get intonbed and go right back to sleep

  • Hip pain from laying on my side has been what's keeping me up. Then I have a hard time falling back to sleep.

What helped for my hip pain was getting 2 body pillows and kind of wedging my body between them. keeps the pressure of my hips and gave a few full nights sleep.

  • i actually have a prescription for ambien from my OB and if i wake up in the middle of the night, i take about 1/3 of a 5 mg ambien to help me fall back to sleep.  while i'm waiting to fall to sleep, i read books that are light reading, mostly chick lit.

i am also telling myself, perfect, i am ready for those nighttime feedings! no adjusting necessary.

  • Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm hoping to get some more normal sleep soon. My body must have finally been tired enough from so many nights of only a few hours of sleep because I napped from 8:30 - 10pm, went to bed last night and mostly slept until 6:30 or so. If I could keep that up it would be great!
