TTC number 6

Hello everyone my wife and I have been trying since July and nothing yet. We were trying iui for the first 3 times and now we are using fertility drugs along with iui. My wife is getting really stressed out and we are trying to keep her chill so that maybe number 6 is the lucky shot. The last time we went she had 2 great looking follicles and we were hopeful. I am not sure if there is anything else we can be doing to help this along. Any advice is welcome! I have been doing my best to keep her relaxed but I am starting to get stressed with her. Thank you for your help!

Re: TTC number 6

  • Good luck with try number 6! I will say that I truly believe that my stress levels going down for my 5th try greatly contributed to it working. I've got no proof of that, but I believe that because I'd decided that 'this one wouldn't work' and we'd decided to take a break over the holiday months that I wasn't thinking about it as much. I even drank 3 beers the night before I realized I was pregnant, because I really thought I wasn't knocked up :)

Acupuncture is one thing that really seemed to help me relax, and I believe that that had something to do with it working this time too.

Having said all of that, trying to relax when all you can think about is every little twinge, 'symptom' and change in your body is so difficult. I think that my partner struggled to understand what it was like for me. It really is a special form of torture. I also felt more and more inadequate a bit broken every time it didn't work.

I wish you both the best of luck, and I hope that you and your wife are able to enjoy a peaceful cycle with lots of relaxation :)

  • It's such an emotional roller coaster--I'm sorry your wife sounds like she is really feeling it this cycle:(

I second the acupuncture suggestion--it really helped my wife become calm and possibly to keep her cycle on track.  I know it can be expensive--if that's a concern, look for a "community accupuncture center"....there are a few people in one room receiving treatment, so it's much cheaper. It's not as creepy as it sounds, I promise!!

  • Here are my pcp/ttc sanity savers:

    • Acupuncture - this is now part of my on-going self-care and has positively impacted my hormone levels and overall stress level
    • Meditation - either silent or with a fertility specific soundtrack
    • Mayan.Abdominal.Massage - professional massage is relaxing and the self-care helps me feel I'm doing something each day
    • Exercise - for me this is walking a few miles 3-4/week
    • Staying focused on other non-ttc things, a balance between activities (date night, house projects, etc) and distracting things (books, movies, etc)

    Best of luck!

  • Best of luck with this cycle!

TTC is such an emotional roller coaster...

On thing that helped us during our waits and in between cycles was to plan activities away from ttc.   During our last cylce, we planned one thing to do together each day.  It was anything from ordering dinner in and snuggling while watching a movie, going to a new park to walk, bowling etc.  It really helped and I found myself more looking forward to the next day's event than worried what cycle day or what dpo we were on.

  • Hi E, I'm in the same boat but I'm the one trying not to stress. My wife seems confident that this month will be it! I'm on Clomid and it makes me irritable and emotional, but we are keeping a good sense of humor about everything... That seems to help! I like the suggestions on here so far. I scheduled an acupuncture appt because I'm sure that helped me get pregnant last time. My wife and I both get weekly massages and chiropractic care. I was seeing a therapist to talk through this process and I may start doing that again. I go to a meditation group to help shut my mind down at least for an hour. I want to do more dates with my wife, I like that suggestion! This weekend we are going to SF to see friends and I'm worried that running round will exhaust me but she says we can take a break at the hotel whenever. We are going in to see RE on Friday to take a look at my follicles. Hopefully they will be ready soon!

Good luck to you for try 6!
