34w2d and I made it without any rude comments until just now...

I was in the kitchen at work refilling my water cup, when someone here at work said "how many more weeks?"

I said "5 or 6 to go"

She says "wow... He is going to be a big baby!"

I said "no, he's measuring just fine."  I turned and walked out.

Really... I think you just called me huge, Lady!

  • Consider yourself lucky then.

I think after this much time we have all decided... people are jerks, and just ignore it.

  • I had a cashier tell me on Friday I didn't need the latte because I was pregnant and can she get me a decaf.

  • Yep, I get this every.single.day.  Often, from people I see every.single.day.

People are stupid, and even though they don't mean to be, they are also rude.

Agreed! If they're not saying mean things they're looking mean.

  • If you made it this long you are incredible lucky!!!

example of some comments i have gotten:

    1. are you sure you aren't having twins?

    2. aren't you due in like 2 or 3 weeks (i was around 27 weeks at that point)

    3. Holy cow your stomach is huge!

    4. You look like you're going to pop!

ugh!  DH's Nana said that too me before my belly was actually there.  It was during that "not exactly looking pregnant but looks like you went on a fat binge" phase.

Nana also asked loudly at my baby shower.  How much weight have you gained exactly?

    Oh Nana....the comic relief.

  • Yeah, I am on baby #3 - and #2 was measuring small so I know I am bigger this time than the last time.  I am sure I am bigger than I was with #1 since everything is all stretched out.  At work like 2 weeks ago, one of my co-workers said, "I don't think I ever got that big!" (when she was pg with her only child).  Yeah, I know I am bigger now, but does everyone need to comment on it?!  Only 4 more weeks to go (hopefully)!

  • We are having a surprise and Nana likes to tell me she really hopes I have a girl...because she's just sick of all the men in her family... so can I do that for her...no really...she wants a girl....no boys

    But god love her.

    BWAHAHA

  • It's amazing what comes out of people's mouths!  Take it with a grain of salt and try to laugh it off. Personally I've only had a few comments like "Oh wow, your face has changed!) meaning it got fat and "Oh look how fat you are now" from a family member that struggles with their weight. This family member also told everyone at my baby shower that she was glad I was so fat so she wouldn't have to worry about holding her tummy in.   Sigh!

I think I honestly would have went ape-shi* on the girl if she told me I couldn't have a latte. "I would have told her, I'm sorry, where did you get your PhD from? I don't recognize Ignorant University as an accredited school"

My favorite comment thus far is - "HOLY COW! Do you have a basketball in there? My niece is only a week ahead of you and you're WAY bigger than she is!"

  • Last week I got, "so, any day now, huh?" from a perfect stranger. When I said, "no". She said, "Oh, so it's twins?" WTH??

  • Right there with you. My MIL just called me huge again tonight. And then told me that because I'm so huge she thinks I'll be going early, so if I go into labor this week to call them (since DH is out of town this week). NO SH!T? You want me to call my geographically-closest family members if I go into labor while my husband is out of town? And have you never seen someone 36 weeks pregnant?

  • Yea last night at dinner with my in-laws my mother in law said "your looking much rounder" then when I saw my father in-law he said "your looking very pregnant today, even your face looks pregnant" WTH. Way to make me feel huge people. DH just smirked and looked down at the table. I just said "yea i'll shrink back down in a few weeks but i'm going to keep getting bigger until he gets here". Even my mom this weekend greeted me with "wow your look like you could go any day!" Serious loss of points for the grandparents this past weekend. At least my dad didn't make any rude comments and still hasn't. People just have no filters.

Someone said this to me at work last week. I was baffled but I've also realized that people say a lot of dumb things in general but especially to pregnant people. I am just hoping my customers can try and be nice these last few weeks because holding my tongue is getting harder and harder to control.

  • I feel like people just think I'm fat, not pregnant... Every time DH and I go out to dinner or something, if he gets an alcoholic drink or has a sip of wine they ask for my ID, too, and when I say "I'm not drinking" they all look at me quizzically like they don't believe me.

I literally just blurted out when we were at dinner for my birthday, "I can't drink. I'm really, very pregnant right now." The waiter just stared at me.

I was actually relieved when my neighbor saw me for the first time in months and went, "Oh wow. So, you're having another baby, aren't you?" I was just glad someone finally acknowledged I'm pregnant, not fat.
