October 2011 Moms

Tubes/surgery

DS has been couching constantly since he was 2 months old. He has had maybe 10-20 days total without coughing since it started Dec. 12. He's had 8 ear infections since January and this last one didn't go away even after a week of antibiotics. We went to a pulmonologist for several months to try to get the cough figured out but got no answers (not asthma, not reflux, not allergies, did a swallow and GI study, no issues). We went to the ENT on Tuesday and he is scheduled for tubes and 3 scopes (nasal, bronchial and laryngeal) on the 26th, so he will be put under for a little longer than normal tube procedure. He will also need a breathing tube. I'm freaked out. I know it's necessary but it makes me SO NERVOUS. He's still my teeny tiny baby and I'm sending him off to the unknown.

Any other October babies have tubes or scopes yet?

  • I'm so, so sorry. That persistent cough sounds terrible! And my little girl is scheduled for tube surgery this Thursday, so I totally understand the anxiety surrounding anesthesia. I'll be thinking of your little guy! Good luck!!

  • We're having tubes put in on Wednesday. I'm nervous about it even though everyone tells me it's a very quick and easy procedure. I wish you luck and I hope they find out what's causing your lo's cough. They did the little test where they blow puffs of air into the ear and one of his ear drum's has so much fluid behind it it isn't even moving. At least they are getting it done now before their speech has been affected a lot. I will be thinking of you. Good luck!

  • My daughter had tubes put in back in June after 56 ear infections. It has made a world of difference for her and knock on wood she hasn't had one since the surgery!!! It was a very quick and easy surgery and recovery for her. Obviously yours will be longer/different bc of the scopes but I hope all goes well!

  • I'm so sorry. I haven't to deal with this issue personally, but I wish you guys the best luck. I would be a nervous wreck as well. You guys will be in my thoughts.
