2nd Trimester

Question for STMs about sleeping/waking up

I'm a FTM who LOVES my sleepy mornings. My hubs gets up much earlier than I do, and especially now that I'm pregnant I love to sleep in as long as I can before having to get up and start the day. I know this will all change once we have the baby...so my question is...

Do i start waking up early to get used to getting up early to prep myself for the baby?

OR

Do I keep sleeping as long as I can since I won't have that luxury once the baby arrives. Would love your input :)

thanks!

  • I vote for keep sleeping!  Honestly, I doubt waking an hour or more early is going to get you ready for a nb night wakings.

  • Sleep while you can.

  • Sleep while you can. I doubt that any prep I did would have been able to adequately prepare me for early wakings after night wakings too.
  • Yeah, nothing can really prepare you to be up every 2-3 hours.  Sleep while you can!

  • Definitely keep sleeping in!  Since your H likes getting up, hopefully he can get up earlier with the baby and let you sleep.  That was our plan - from about 6/7am on, DH would get up and give her a bottle of pumped milk and let me get a few uninterrupted hours of sleep.  It worked really well for us.

As you get further along, your sleep will most likely get crappier, so take advantage of it now.

  • I feel like your body preps you to be getting up with baby. I have found with both pregnancies the further along I get, the harder it is to sleep. Enjoy it:
  • Sleep!!!!

  • Sleep whenever you can. This advice is especially true once baby is here. :-)

  • Sleep as much as you can now, and please enjoy it. I haven't had a good night's rest since 2003.

Lol, this is true. Even as they get bigger you still have to wake up early until they are big enough to make breakfast(cereal or the like)  by themselves.

  • I'm a FTM but I woke up at 1:45 and it's now 3:00. This has been happening a few nights a few for a couple of weeks. Get all the sleep you can!

  • Also, as you move through your pregnancy and get bigger and more uncomfortable, you may find yourself waking a lot through the night and having a harder time getting back to sleep.  It's like pregnancy induced insomnia and it sucks!  Everyone would say "Oh it's your body's way of getting ready to wake for a baby".....greeeeeat. ;)

  • Honestly, once i become pregnant I can't sleep at night at all, Insomnia kicks in. DS wakes up when daddy gets ready for work, around 7 in the morning. So I get up with him and am up all day with him, and then go and lay down when daddy does, but i watch a movie before I attempt to sleep. So if i were you, get some sleep. If you are worried about not being able to wake up when little one gets here. Randomly set an alarm on your phone to go off sometime in the night, just so you can wake up. Then go back to bed.

  • Keep sleeping in! You'll likely reach a point in your pregnancy where you can't sleep anymore, anyway. Enjoy it while it lasts, for sure.

This is our agreement now, but we only started when I stopped breastfeeding during this pregnancy. It's a great system though if your h will agree to it! Definitely keep sleeping as long and and as much as you can!

ETA: also, I slept great until the momentI went into labour. Hopefully you will be able to sleep well throughout your pregnancy like I was. :

  • SLEEP! The joke in my family and DH's family was that nobody should call our house before noon on a weekend because they knew we would not answer. There is no way to know what kind of sleeper your LO will be so there is no real way to prepare. I promise you will be able to do it...look at us we our having our third!

  • Keep sleeping- the first few weeks will be a rough adjustment and then you'll be used to it. My DD didn't sleep at night the first three days we were home, and unless she was being held she would cry- my DH and I traded off and somehow I managed to make it with 3-4 hours of sleep a day for a while. The morning would come and I would get a second wind and I just assumed that was the 'mommy' in me knowing I have to forge ahead. You can't train yourself, you just have to get used to it when it happens. And who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and your LO will sleep a lot!
