Weight Check!

LO's weight has been an issue for us since right around 2mos.  We've been slowly inching up, and we've even been able to stave off weekly visits for the past month or so.  Well, grammy took LO to the pedi today and he's up - he's WAY up.  We jumped form 1st percentile to 7th.  I could not be happier, I feel like we're finally on the right track!

Re: Weight Check!

  • that's good. how ,much does he weigh now.  we also having issues with DS weight gain, at 6 month check up he was in the 3rd percentile, weighing 14lbs.  we took him for 7 month weight check and he was 14lb 8oz. i have to take him for another weight check this month.

are you doing anything different with food? that is so good that he is on right track now

  • Monthly weight checks aren't too bad.  It's good that you are keeping an eye on things, and the weight checks help to nip any real issues in the bud. - They can be scary (and a pain) but you'll get through them! - If LO is mobile now his weight gains will def be smaller too, so don't fret too much and trust that you're doing the right things. =)

LO has MSPI so we're definitely doing something different with food. We had to have special instructions with how to introduce solids (yellows and oranges first apparently), and we had to delay the start to give his digestive system a little extra time to develop.  -  His formula is fortified with extra calories as well.

If you still don't like what you're seeing as far as weight at your LO's next visit, maybe you could talk to the pedi about fortifying his formula (or bm, we originally fortified bm for LO but his MSPI was still too severe to handle the bm)?

Let me know how his weight check goes!

  • right now he is on Similac Neosure 22 cal formula. we will see how this next weight check goes. let you know..thanks!

  • That's great! Can I ask you what other guidance you got for introducing solids? DS is MSPI but the GE didn't tell us any specific order to intro food, just to wait about 5 days between new foods.

There's a great resource here that our GI said is a great route to go for most MSPI babes.  - Our LO's MSPI is really severe, and sneaky (took 4mos and a hospitalization to achieve a diagnosis), so we were given a pretty extreme diet.  We were told, Yellows and oranges (but only vegetables), then light colored fruits moving on to green fruits, once green fruits are ok add darker vegetables then from darker vegetables go to meats, then finally start introducing grains. - we're still halted at green fruits (pears didn't go so well), but GI is thinking of having us move on to darker veg still and hope that it's just pears causing a reaction

Thanks for the reply. I hope he continues to do well. My boy's intolerances have been hard to figure out, too, but we've never had an issue with weight gain. It is a frustrating problem!
