Update - On Hospital Bedrest

Hi ladies, I am just now getting time to check in and post an update.

I had my regular OB appointment on Wednesday where my BP was elevated so she sent me to L&D for monitoring. While in L&D the nurses were having trouble getting both babies to stay on the monitors at the same time and my BP started spiking. I was admitted to the ante-partum wing for more monitoring and a 24 hour urine screen.

I had an growth ultrasound on Thursday morning with my MFM who was pretty adamant that I would be delivering within days. I was given a steroid injection and sent back to bed. The girls looked good though with weights estimated around 4lbs 12 oz and 4lbs 9 oz. I think they are wondering why they have to be in the hospital when they are fine. I am the one with the issues. LOL. My OB came by to chat and a Neonatologist from the NICU came by to reassure me that at even at 32 weeks, the girls looked good and would be fine.

By Thursday evening, my BP stabilized and it has remained within normal limits ever since. I got my second steroid injection yesterday so now I wait. We balance my blood pressure against keeping the girls in as long as we can. Hopefully when my OB comes in on Monday, I can get a goal date from her, but I think it will be 36 weeks.

So, here I sit in the hospital trying to make the best of it. It's not so bad. I would stand on my head for the next 4 weeks if it woud help the girls.

Any extra prayers you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

Melle, I have been following your posts and I have been thinking a lot about you and the girls since your last update.  Many T&P's for you to keep baking those babies and for your b/p to cooperate!  You went through so much to have these babies and I know you'll be a great mom! It sounds like you have your head in a good place!

  • I'm sorry you are going through this!  I will admit when I was on the high risk unit, t was actually easier for me.  We had no family and minimal friends nearby.  And my husband worked really long hours-so trying to get decent meals in and have socialization was really hard (I did a lot of sandwiches and snacks when I was on home bed rest).  The food was really good at the hospital and I actually got to talk with people at the hospital.  Big Smile  Mine even had the option of having a masseuse come in!

    Good luck keeping them cooking!

  • Thank you ladies. I am hanging in there. It's really not so bad. I would rather be at home, but my head tells me this is the best place to be.

Saw my OB this morning and she still thinks it will be sooner rather than later, but that 34 weeks is probably realistic. So, we'll see. I can feel the babies growing by the minute. My belly is getting huge!

I feel good for the most part, just trying to rest and relax. On the plus side, I have lost 9 lbs of fluid since I have been here. I actually have normal looking feet and ankle bones. Woo hoo!

I appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts. I will keep you posted.

  • This is exactly what happened to me.  I went in @ 32w for an NST and they saw spiking BP.  I spent 4w on hospital bed rest and my babies were delivered @ 36w1d via scheduled c-section.  You can do it!  You've got a great attitude :)  I hope your BP stays stable and you get to 36w!
