Toddlers: 24 Months+

How many times should 3 y/o urinate?

We are diligently working on potty training  this weekend.  I took off his diaper when he woke up and it was damp.  This was around 8am.  He has been playing  completely naked since- no diaper, no clothes, nada.  He has drank about 13 oz of apple juice so since I removed the diaper.  I have been watching him closely and asking him constantly if he has to pee.  The answer has been no every time and he has not had any accidents so far.  (I left his side once for a few minutes just so I could pee!)

How long do you think a toddler could hold in this much liquid?  Or maybe he just doesn't have to go yet?  I'm at a loss here.  This is my first so i am new to this whiole potty training fun... :)

Thanks!!

  • My daughter can hold her pee for a really long time. Once it was like 7 hours. He'll go when he's ready. Good luck!

Yah!  My 3yo can hold her urine in for a really long time like 7 or 8 hrs. When she does have to go it's with urgency. I, however, go much more frequently and have a hard time fathoming this concept.

  • Yea he held it in for a while in the morning yesterday.  I think he was just nervous about not having the diaper to pee in.  Once he DID finally use the potty, he seemed much calmer about it.

  • When DD first PTed she held it all the time and until fairly recently (7 or 8 months post PTing) she would'nt pee in public bathrooms (we tried all the tools & tricks) and so she would hold it for a really long time if we went out places. I got worried at first that she'd give herself a UTI but as she sort of learned how to do it & how to just go on her own when she felt it, etc, it got better. She still hates going in public tho ;)
