October 2011 Moms

Vegas

DH and I are flying out to Vegas with another couple on Wednesday. We've never been, so I was just wondering if you October ladies have any suggestions for shows, sights or eats.

We're down there for 5 days, and DS is staying with our parents, so it's just adults going. Thanks in advance!

Re: Vegas

  • never been but...

I know everyone say cirque du soleil, but I wasn't impressed ( I saw them elsewhere).  Maybe there was just too much hype.

  • I think cirque de soliel depends on what show you see. I have friends that have been to multiple shows and some they love, some they said aren't very good.

I love eating at Serendipity. It's right infront of Caesar's Palace. They have big portions and good food. The Treasure Island hotel's show at night is pretty cool. It's right in front of the building. You cannot miss it, there is a huge pirate ship and they have fireworks.....best part, it's free. We always take an evening trip to Fremont....the old strip. It's old school Las Vegas....tons if lights, show girls walking around. The cool thing is the road is closed to vehicles so you can walk up and down the road and not deal with cars. You can zipline Fremont St. And the ceiling above Fremont St is a light show that goes to music. So we always go in the evening to watch it. You can YouTube and see what it looks like. A lot of hotel pools close early due to them wanting you to hit the casinos and bars. Also pool chairs fill up FAST, it's normal to see a line forming outside the pool gate before 30 to 45 min before it opens. If you like rides, my friends love the coaster at New York, New York and the rides at Stratosphere. I don't do the rides so I can't tell you what they are like but they love them. The first time I went, I was extremely overwhelmed because there is so much to do and see.

  • We love Vegas!! We like to drink, gamble, and eat.  Our favorite spots are:

-CUT; a must go if you like meat...it's a little spendy but delish! It's a Wolfgang Puck restaurant.

    -Bartolota @ The Wynn--Mediterranean

-The Buffet @ The Wynn is wonderful.  My mom just got back from Vegas and said the new buffet at Caesars is AMAZING! But expect a wait.

We have seen a few shows and really liked them.  La R?ve was really great as well as  Mystere.  As far as comedy, we went to see Carrot Top...I was dreading going because I thought he was dumb.  Honestly, it was super good...I laughed the entire time.

The shopping/window shopping is super fun.  Also the fountain show at the Bellagio and the Pirate Ship show at treasure Island are great free fun.

  • Fun!  You guys are going to have a great time.  We go every year for our fantasy football draft, but we always do it on the cheap, so I have no experience in the high end resteraunts.

IMO, you must go to the Freemont Street experience and enjoy the sights at night and enjoy the divey casinos.  Maybe even go to the strip club if you are up to it.  I've always wanted to go, but DH is a chicken

There is a new mob museum, if you are into that.  Also, the Neon museum is now open, where all the old neon Vegas signs are.  Five days in Vegas is a long time, especially if you run out of $ the first couple of days.  You can always go and do these other things if you get sick of the strip.

Of course, go to the strip and get your picture taken in front of the Vegas sign, with an Elvis walking the street, check out the Forum shops (if you can afford it), and just fly by the seat of your pants and have fun.  Have sex often, and get your drink on, girl!  Oh, and wear cute scandalous clothes that you can't get away with wearing here.  Let us know how it goes :-)
