Christmas gift idea for my SD.

I was thinking of subscribing to American Girl magazine for my SD for a Christmas gift. I'm hoping that the magazine would teach her things that I can't seem to myself. Not only her behavior, but also hygiene and values of friendship. She has problems in those areas. I am sure that a magazine that empowers girls could help her. WDYT?

    What about enrolling her in a club like the Girl Scouts?  Doesn't that instill good morals and such, or am I hopelessly out of it?

    I think it's a great idea. I remember having Felicity and being so into going to yes and manners. Even as an adult my mom and I love going to tea together. They have a lot of great books about the importance of honesty, friendship, hard work. I also like the historical aspect. I know their stuff is expensive but with all the other crap people buy their kids they have to "upgrade" every year it's worth it IMO for the message it sends girls vs iPads and Monster High Dolls.

    I read American girl when I was in late elementary/ early middle school. I used to love it! Hope it meets her needs.

    Thanks for your responses. I will subscribe to the magazine. It can be her "something they read" gift.
    Chunstad, she is in girl scouts. So far they have only concentrated on being active in the community. It is a great way to empower young girls. I hope with GS, the magazine, and my own attempts she can improve her point of view and grow to be respectful.

    I like the idea of the American Girl magazine. I remember reading it when I was younger. Also I was in Girl Scouts my whole life. I loved it and it helped with a lot too. Maybe you could talk to her troop leader about some of your concerns that they could do a meeting on hygiene ex.
