Best age to transition to crib?

We are currently bedsharing but eventually I would like to transition DS to the crib. He used to start the night there and by the third time he woke up I brought him into bed with us. Now he won't sleep in crib at all anymore. He is ten months old. Does it just get harder and harder as they get older to transition to the crib or is there an age that's easier? I feel like it would have been easier before he could pull to stand. Does it just get harder when he learns to walk or easier when he learns how to sit down from standing position?

Re: Best age to transition to crib?

  • It could be more a developmental stage that is making sleeping difficult for him.

I've done similar to you (ie starting off in the cot and then bringing into bed at some point) with both girls.

DD1 was in and out of our bed until about 15mths. ie she'd STTN in her own own for weeks at a time and then something would happen to disrupt that and she'd be back in our bed. Then we had DD2 and she's been in our bed the last few months.

DD2 seems to be in the middle of some developmental stuff and recently teething, so I'm not worried about pushing it, and am happy with her in our bed.

I don't think it gets harder and harder, but I do think phases come and go that could be challenging if you chose that moment to go for it.
