My son, Noah, was born on 7/5/11. He is the size of most 2 year olds, physically met everything his doctor expects 2 year olds to do (and he is only 16 months), and is very smart. BUT he does not talk! Has anyone else had this problem? We read to him. We try to talk to him. I even sat him in front of a couple educational words videos last weekend. Some of the kids in his daycare class are forming sentences, and he is not saying a single word.
His doctor isn't worried. She said since he understands words, she won't worry until his 18 month appointment. It is driving me crazy though!
Help!
Re: Words!
Dylan has no words as well. He started talking at 12 months, he'd say mama, dada, uh oh then he began walking and decided that was more fun.
he understands words as well and has quite the personality. He babbles a ton too.
DS was also a late talker, now he talks non stop!
I wouldn't worry too much. What you're doing sounds great. I'm constantly telling Dylan what things are, what he's eating, where his body parts are, etc. all kids develop so different and it's so easy to worry when kids around that age may be doing something different.
Speach therapy is always available if you're really concerned
Your son is my birthday twin
My brother didn't talk until he was over 2.When he did talk, he just kind of busted out full sentences and skipped the whole Mama/Dada phase.
Now, you can't get him to shut up
He's just fine! As long as he understands, it's really all that matters.
My LO knows like 12 words but all she says is, "Who's that and Kitty" all day long. Over and Over. LOL.
She's know where near forming a complete sentence yet.
I know tons of kids that didn't say a word until 2ish and then all of a sudden busted out with the paragraph prose.
That is how almost all of the boys in our family are. My son and one nephew were the only ones to talk before 2, which means two out of close to 20. No words until 2, and then all of a sudden they were speaking in complete sentences.
I do think Andy understands and is maybe trying to talk, but it just sounds like babble to me. I've never been good at understanding baby talk. Maybe your DS is talking, but maybe you can't make out words. He will get there.
