Food Allergy

Corn allergy?

I've got an MSPI baby and I think he may be reacting to nuts and corn too. Anyone else have a corn allergic kid?

I feel like his food allergies keep him from wanting to eat very much at once from a perpetual tummy ache and perhaps are contributing to him still waking 5 times a night to eat. He's taking 2 to 3 ounces each time which is what he does in day feedings as well. I pump so I know what he's taking.

I also ready in an allergy book that corn allergic kids frequently react to rice and peaches too. Interesting!

Re: Corn allergy?

  • Anything can trigger an allergy, some are just less common.  DD is allergic to oats and sensitive to dairy.  While figuring out the dairy, she was nursing every 45min-2hrs bc sucking settles their tummy but on the flip side if the culprit food is in your system, they end up taking it in everytime they eat.  Took me 3wks to clear the dairy from my system before I saw significant results in DD - no gas, no fuss, no spitting up.  The oats she reacts more severely to so when I ate them and she nursed she had a full body rash and swelling for 24hrs, but it cleared up right away and I now avoid oats.

  • Will had a corn allergy, though he outgrew it shortly before the time he turned 3 (thankfully as corn was trickier to avoid than you might think!). Is he on exclusively breastmilk or do you supplement with formula? Most formulas have corn syrup solids in them so just watch out for that if he gets any formula.

Will never reacted to rice or peaches (though the first week we gave him rice he broke out in eczema but he had so many unexplained breakouts you never knew if it was the new food or not) but that is interesting; I hadn't head that.
