I don't even know what that is.

I think she is talking about those Pepridge Farms meat log (aka summer sausage) gift sets. If thats the case, then they have always been a christmas thing. We get the store seasonally each year.

  • Think giant ring bologna or sausage in cellophane handed out during christmas usually accompanied by some sort of stinky cheese

I know they've been around for a while, my brother used to get one every year. I just what to know why someone thought that was a good idea.

Yeah, pepridge farms gift sets. Your local mall doesn't get one of these store around Christmas time? It's really typical. Apprently people like to cop out of buying real gifts and get people food gift sets.

  • Ok, scratch that. It's Hickory Farms. However, they've been around forever. No idea why. Though it used to fairly traditional back in the 50's to get food gift sets and such for like your boss for Christmas. My Stepdad loves getting the big ole meat log and cheese every year. It's kind of weird. I'd much rather have a box of Gertrude Hawk Crispy bars or Sees candy though.

  • Hickory Farms beef stick is the sh?t. My dad cuts it up and cooks it with some secret sauce mixture on the stove and its amazing. We've eaten it every year since before I can remember.

Mmm ok. I think I like it. I bought some Boar's Head salami (I think?) and it was really yummy on crackers. I approve of meat logs. I guess it's good to have for guests at christmastime.

    +1

I also approve of stinky cheese. The stinkier, the better.

A woman's life is nine parts mess to one part magic, you'll learn that soon enough...and the parts that look like magic turn out to be the messiest of all.

This. They've been around since the 80s.

  • it's actually traditional due to old agrarian practices going back to the Middle Ages.

you'd slaughter any extra animals in early fall so you didn't waste resources feeding them during the winter. The meat would then be preserved (sausage/meat sticks) which would be your meat source through winter.

A land owner would at times give his tenants meat (sausage) as gifts for Christmas to help them get theough the winter without starving. So it's actually a historical thing.

I love Hickory Farms. I treat myself to a beef stick, cheese and cracker gift set every year because they are so flucking good. I also enjoy the little strawberry hard candies that come with them. Mmmm, tasty.

All of this! I love the beef stick, and especially the smoked cheddar. I need to go buy some right NAO!

  • When I was younger, it was tradition to get the Hickory Farms beef stick at the mall kiosk during the holidays. Back then it was the only time if year you could find that particular kind of summer sausage. My mom would sometimes visit multiple malls in attempt to find one.

I'll take your meat log but you can keep your stinky cheese.
