I plan to do a combination of BLW, as well as traditional pures. The other night we were eating steamed broccoli with dinner, so I gave LO a stalk to play with. He LOVED it! He seemed to love the experience, and he didn't hate the taste. However, he had an awful night that night, waking up multiple times. In the morning as he was fussing yet again, he finally pooped and instantly seemed to feel better. So I wonder if the fact that it was broccoli made him constipated or gassy, or just the fact that it was real food. He's only ever had breastmilk rice cereal.
Any other BLW babies experience some tummy troubles? I think our next veggie experience will be pures. I plan on attempting green bean pure followed by real green beans.
Re: BLW ?
I plan to do BLW but we're not really going to go for finger foods it until she's 6 months then do a mix of both like you plan to. So far we've given her some purees or mashed stuff with the same result you said. She has a really fussy day, then a massive, smelly, thick poop and then all is well. I think it's her digestive system adjusting to solids so I plan to give her less at one shot and dilute with BM from now on.
Edit: Just to mention the foods she's had with that result were carrots and potatoes.
Thanks for the info! Glad I'm not alone!
Thanks for the tip! My doctor advised me to try 23 more bland vegetables before sweet potato or avocado. So maybe I'll do carrots. Does anyone know if green beans are easy or hard to digest? Thought I would try 2 days of green bean puree followed by 2 days of steamed green beans, BLW style.
Either way I'm waiting a week or two before doing another veggie!
I've given Lucas avocodo banana in strips blw and in pure form and pured green beans. He loves avocodo and that was his first food other than bm.
Good gravy you can't spell puree on an iPhone easily can you
Interesting about the SP and avocado. I was told that avocado was one of the best things to give early on because it helps with digestion and is relatively bland. And SP was the first thing we gave her after cereal! I guess all pedis have their own opinions on these things.
DD has not had any issue with digesting green beans or peas (although you can definitely tell what she ate by her poop color!) We haven't done carrots yet. That's next up.

Gosh it is so interesting how much pediatricians vary!! When she explained it to me it made sense, as far as boring, bland foods first. I never knew avocado aids in digestion! I might bump it up on my list. And by the way, I meant 2 to 3, not 23. The iPhone/Bump removes the dash!
And to a pp, I've been lucky in that my LO has never been affected by ANYTHING I eat! No problems with dairy, broccoli, spicy foods, caffeine, etc. But it is easy to see how broccoli would be hard on his brand new digestive system!
