Hemp Liners & Wool Diapers

So we got a wool diaper cover to put over baby girl's BG 4.0 at night to hopefully stop leaks, in addition to stuffing with a couple hemp liners. I've never had a wool diaper cover before, much less wool anything, nor hemp liners! How do I go about initially washing them, regularly washing them, etc. Can the hemp be washed along with my other diapers? What does lanolinizing the wool diaper entail? What types of wash/lanolinizer do you recommend for wool? Thank you for your help!

We just got some Thirsties hemp inserts. I boiled them for about 30 minutes and then wash/dried them 3x before use (use detergent). Worked great from the get-go!

No advice on wool, we don't have any.

when you say wool diaper, do you in fact mean wool diaper cover? If you mean wool cover, I hand wash all my wool in either CJs or Eucalan, adding extra lanolin by either using CJs spray lanolin afterwards or making a lanolin soak and letting it sit in lanolin melted in warm water for like 30 mins. This is the same process I use for all my wool.

This is how I lanolize and wash all of my wool as well. To prep hemp, as long as there is no elastic, snaps or velcro you can boil for about 20 minutes and then wash once or twice.

I would urge you to think about purchasing a fitted to try out for nighttime. I have used a wool cover over a pocket, but only as an emergency bc all of my fitteds were dirty. The PUL cover of a pocket combined with the wool soaker will be really hot for your LO.

I use wool covers over my PUL diapers too sometimes and it works just fine and DD never seems too hot or anything. In terms of washing your wool cover, it needs to be handwashed. Depending on how often it's used and how wet it gets, you can usually go for up to a month btwn washing and lanolizing. If you're using it over PUL (like a 4.0) you definitely can go a month since it should be staying mostly dry and clean. Search youtube for videos on washing and lanolizing wool.
