Hello ladies.
Quick background: Me 27, DH 29. TTC for 13 months. I ovulate every month (i temp/chart), diagnosed with thyroiditis in April. DH's SA was fair, 75% motility, 22 mill/ml, 32% morph, He has a history of an undescended testicle.
We just found out DH's testosterone level is pretty low. Average for his age is the 600's and his was 302. Range is 300-800 I believe. He has a very low libido, poor energy, hardly any facial hair and sometimes difficulty keeping an erection.
The office was talking about starting t shots. I've heard these are really bad for sperm. We're going to see an endocrinologist in December for another opinion. Just wondering if anyone's DH takes clomid? I read some info and it seems to up testosterone and sperm count.

Re: Low testosterone
Testosterone replacement therapy of any kind will cause sperm count to plummet, and in many cases cease to (usually temporarily) exist, in men. Its a fact. Find a different doctor or urologist who specializes in MFI, if anything. My DH was taking Testopel and applying Androgel for his low T, and now he's azoospermic from the T treatment. His last 2 SA's showed ZERO sperm. Not one. He's been on Clomid 50 mg a day, and just started HCG injects (3,000 units weekly), but there's still no improvement. T treatment is the worst thing you can do if you're TTC.

*TTC #1 since June 2012*
Married since 10/5/12!
*Me: 25**DH: 45*
*DX: Severe MFI- Low T, Delayed Ejaculation & Azoospermia*
*Working to improve DH's numbers on Clomid & HCG injects before we can start IVF*
*SA 1- No sperm* 7/25/12
*SA 2- No sperm* 10/31/12
We suffer from Severe MFI, and husband has a history of undescended testicle, he had the surgery when he was little. He was also a premie.
We found out throught a URologist that dealt with Infertility that in a lot of cases (my husband was one) even though they are able to operated and retrieve testicle sometimes they are not fully functioning, if not functioning at all.
T treatment is NOT good at all when TTC. Please Please Please go to a urologist that specializes in this. My husband was placed on clomid 50mg every other day while we IVF cycle. RE did this to increase the sperm. It will not help with the Morph or motility, but she adv if she could get more good sperm. It worked. I also added CO Q10 and his motility went from 25% to 44%. Morph was same 2.I added a vitamin for men over 50 helps with prostate. When we are done having kids, she will then change his treatment.

Thanks for all your answers so far!!
DH was so excited to start T shots and start feeling better, I felt really bad when I told him no because of the sperm thing. Hopefully he can get on some clomid and start feeling better. It's hard to get pregnant when he only wants sex 1 time a week.
Good Luck to all your husbands as well.

Wow! What kind of doctor suggested testosterone treatment? My DH has bilateral varicocele (just went in for Varicocele repair surgery a few days ago). He, too, had testosterone at the levels you describe your DH's levels. We discovered this because my DH's SA results were "sub-fertile" category. DH went to a Urologist that specializes in MFI and DH asked why he couldn't just take testosterone to increase his levels and the Urologist explained why not, I forget what he said, but I do remember him saying that it was not an effective way to boost levels. I think it can increase levels too much and just create an off-balance of other hormones which is counter-productive?
We first tried a round of Arimidex which is like Clomid in that it's not directly putting testosterone into his system, yet helps converts estrogen (or estradolil--I forget now) into Testosterone. Blood work confirmed that his testosterone did indeed increase after taking medication, but his SA's stayed the same so that is why we then went for Varicocele repair surgery. Urologist said that DH should start seeing improvement in energy and feeling less tired in a few months because surgery should help improve his testosterone levels naturally (as well as improve his SA **fingers crossed**). Good luck to you guys!

With that being said 22 million really isn't that low. My re says anything over 20 million is normal. His test is low though so maybe the clomid would help his other symptoms. Has your DH had more than one SA done? I would prob get another done if he hasn't.
