XP- No blood work?

I am only 4 weeks along and made my first appt. for 12/11.  There was no mention of bloodwork before then, but I see a lot of ladies listing betas early on in their pregnancy.  Should I be getting bloodwork done or is normal to not not have anything until 1st apt?

  • I think most people only get betas done if they have a history of loss or did fertility treatments.

  • I had my blood work done at 9 weeks. I was also 4 weeks when I called and made my first appt. I only had the bloodwork and a consultation that day. My first OB appt. was just before 12 weeks and that day I did the MaterniT21 test (I am 41). But, right off the bat I knew there were no chromosomal abnormalities and that I am having a baby girl.
  • Most people don't get block work done right away. They go over your medical history and test you for things you're at risk for cystic fibrosis, toxoplasmosis, etc.. Like PP said betas are not common for people with no history of losses.

  • I will have bloodwork done at 8 weeks, but not early betas.  I also don't have an early ultrasound unless they have a problem finding the heartbeat at the following appointment.  Every practice is different, but a lot of the "procedures" are not medically necessary.

  • I wasn't supposed to have blood work until 12 weeks they only did it today because I don't know my blood type.
