Kids crack me up...

We had a Veterans Day Assembly in school today, and all the students wrote letters that will be sent to military units currently serving overseas.  One first grader wrote:

Dear Army,  I hope you don't die.  Kill as much bad guys as you can and save our country.  From, (insert name here).

Yeah, we certainly didn't talk about killing bad guys in the assembly, but 1st grade boys just automatically go there.  Another favorite:

Thank you so much for fighting for our freedom.  I hope you live a long life.

That sums up the difference in thinking between your typical 1st grade boy and your typical 1st grade girl.  (Not trying to start a war of words about gender stereotypes, just sharing some humor.)

  • The difference between the two are funny. I've mostly found the "boys will be boys" holds true.

It reminds me of one of my friend's kids. He is 8. I was over one day and he showed me a picture he drew. It was an army scene with tanks and fighter pilots and the whole works. When he was done I suggested he draw something more cute and cuddly like a bunny. He said "you mean like a bunny in a war zone?"

Totally just spit coffee at my computer screen from laughing.  Love it!

  • That is great.  This reminds me of a card I made my grandma when I was in grade school.  We gotall our pictures and cards back  when she died.

I drew a rainbow with a pot of gold and then I wrote Grandma I love you because you buy me presents.

Anyone here play Killer Bunnies?  I have a feeling this kid would like that game.

When I was in the Girl Scouts my troop drew pictures for the soldiers in Desert Storm.  All the other girls drew flowers and houses and puppies n'shi!t.   I drew a tank shooting at the desert.  (Quite topical, IMHO.)  I got a pulled aside and reprimanded by our troop leader.

    I hated the Girl Scouts.

Ha!  Love it!  I wouldn't have fit in the Girl Scouts, either.  I wasn't the girly-girl type.  One boy made fun of me once b/c my cursive writing didn't look like girls' cursive.  It wasn't overly bubbly enough for his liking.  Ah, 4th grade heartbreak...
