Camera Help

Okay, ladies, I need your help. I know many of you are photographers and/or have nice DSLR cameras. I am in the market for a new camera and I need help. I don't know much about photography and don't understand a lot of the different photography terms. I just love to take pictures of DS mostly, and family, events, activities, etc. My goal is to get a camera that will be user friendly and take clear photos of a quick moving little guy. :) I found a camera at Best Buy that I liked, and it's a higher end point and shoot camera that will cost $400. I know that DSLR cameras typically start around that price or a little higher...

So here are my two questions...for someone who knows nothing much about taking photographs, but is willing to spend $400 on a camera would you get one like I picked out or learn and get a entry level DSLR?

Also, does anyone recommend a good camera - either point and shoot or DSLR? I know this has been asked, but I wasn't smart enough to pay attention then. :)

Thank you!!

Re: Camera Help

  • I learned and bought a DSLR.  Mine was more than $400, but I got it with the intentions of doing photography after I went to school so it was a good buy.  Canon Rebels aren't bad for what you are wanting.  They are on the cheap side and still pretty good quality.  There are a lot of books out there and a lot of places do weekend classes on basic camera use.

  • Honestly, I would really recommend a DSLR if you are going to spend $400 anyway. Take a look at Canon Rebels or Nikon D series. The D3100 can be found for a decent price usually. Or if they still make it, the Nikon D40 as it should be in that price range. It's an older model that has been around for a while but it's a great camera. I used it for a very long time and just switched to a new Nikon.
