Layoffs suck! Vent..

My BIL was just laid off and it sucks! Had to vent sorry! He has two children 15 and 13. Luckily we had thought this may come and my sister has a good job as an RN. Just sucks since its around the holidays!

    what does he do and where does he live.. in case anyone has any ideas.

    Unpopular I know, but he is in the coal mining business.  He's a plant operator.  We live in Eastern Kentucky.  He does have a four degree in business but no jobs available unless you want min. wage. He will be better off collecting unemployment until the mines hire again.  Sad to say but where we live he can collect more from unemployment and "wait it out" than taking a minimum wage job.  I have the same degree and eneded up being a SAHM because my ENTIRE pay would have went to daycare.

    My DH actually insures coal mines! Has he ever thought of working for an insurance company as a risk engineer [loss control rep]? They do safety surveys for underwriters and I'm sure they would benefit from someone actually in the field. Some mine insurance companies are Zurich, Chartis [old AIG], American Mining, and Chubb.

    That is crappy. The holidays can be stressful enough without getting laid off. I hope he gets a new job soon! My dad has been looking for new jobs too since he thinks he might get laid off soon.

    You won't get any flack from me about coal mining.. I was brought up in the North East of England where the coal and steel are an honest but hard way to make a living.
