With my DS #1 (four years ago February) I had a easy, low risk pregnancy. We planned an induction at 39 weeks, I was in labor for 8 hours, I had an epidural, pushed three times and he was here: happy healthy boy.
I am using the same OB, same hospital, heck even planning on delivering the same week as before.... but for some reason, after as easy as the first one was, I am considering other birth options.
This time I am more interested in a ... (gulp)... natural approach. I am not even sure what means even.. Maybe I don't want to be induced... Maybe I don't want an epidural...
Are these just crazy thoughts of a pregnant lady that I might regret after my water breaks and I am on my way to the hospital two and a half hours away (I live in rural Oklahoma)? Anyone else ever changed thier mind?
Re: STM: is your birth plan different?
I have the easy plan, I had it for my first and I have it again. Wait until I go into labor, unless it is past my due date,(if i go past i will get induced) Hold out as long as I can without pain meds. If pain gets too intense than get them. If can't give birth Vaginally than go for C-section.
My first my contractions started and ten minutes later my water broke. Got to hospital and in the room and was 10 cm. My hospital was less than 5 minutes from where I was when my water broke. Layed down, got situated, pushed for a half hour and DS was here. Pain was nothing that time, so no need for pain meds, nothing had to be done really.
I just think I will role with it when it comes this time. That way I won't be devastated if my plan does not go perfect.
I have to ask, if you had a low risk easy pregnancy, why did you get induced and why would your Doc allow that before 40 weeks?
I would never discourage anyone from going natural because I did it, and I plan on doing it again. There's nothing wrong with having the plan to go natural and then changing it when it's showtime, you have to go with your gut and what feels right at the time. My advice is to research all your options ahead of time so you know the pros and cons of each.
My plan is the same as last time - wait for labor to happen by itself, call midwife when contractions start (last time we called OB and went to the hospital when my contractions were 1 minute apart, I was 5 cm when we got there), go to birth center and push a baby out given that no complications arise. Since I'm going to a birth center I don't really need a written out birth plan because my midwives are already on board with me having a natural birth and an epi isn't even an option there. I'll go 42 weeks before an induction. Pitocin-induced contractions scare the crap out of me. I'm a big fan of "letting nature take its course" because that worked for me the first time.
I had an amazing birth with DD and I probably could have gone natural without the epi, but being my first baby I didnt know how bad transition would be. I wasn't even labor that long which was amazing!
This time my plan is to labor at home longer so that I wont want the epi. I also plan on using the labor tub, a birthing ball anything that can help with the pain. Im just going to let my body to tell me what it needs and just go with the flow.
Haha, yes, exactly! My first birth was nothing like I was expecting -- induced at 35 weeks due to pre-e, on awful magnesium for the entire process, bed bound because of the mag (so no tub, walking, birthing balls for me), etc. I quickly learned that I had to roll with whatever was needed to get me and the baby through safely.
DS1: Quinn - 10.22.10 and DS2: Cole - 01.18.13
Only difference this time is that I really really hope that I don't have the baby on 2/20 as that is my oldest DD's bday and I would like them to have their own bdays.
Plan is to go into labor naturally. I was induced with my oldest at 2 weeks late for very low amniotic fluid. I actually just read Ina May's book and she mentioned that this a good reason to induce, which made me feel better.
I have had 2 great epidurals and great births. However, I have scoliosis and recently have had this feeling that maybe an epidural won't work this time so I am trying to do some research before.
I was 2 weeks late with #1 and 2 days late with #2, so I expect to go within a week of my due date.
Since I am attempting a VBAC, a lot of my birth plan is decided for me. With DD, plan was to go no epi, I was okay with induction, which is I was having an elective induction at 39 weeks, since I was 5 cms, and breaking my water should have done the trick (it did, but she was breech, so csection.)
So this time, I again plan no epi, but I can not be induced.
