WWYD? Pacis, bottles, teethers

MIL just got us a diaper cake, and attached to it were a bunch of little things like pacis, a bottle, a teether, and a rattle that all have nothing on them telling what brand they are.  I'm not a brand snob at all, and I'd hate for the stuff to go to waste, but I was wondering if I should be worried about what they're made of, the quality of them, etc. Would you ladies use things like this that the baby will be chewing/sucking on?  I'm just worried about chemicals, etc.  I'm probably being stupid, I know, but I'm just curious.  As long as they're washed, do you think they're ok?

  • I agree, just wash them. I think most things your MIL would run across at the stores these days are BPA-free anyway.

  • I also got a diaper cake with similar.  I just washed then all and figure I'll cross that road when I come to it. :)

  • I got a diaper cake at my shower and it had the same kinds of things on them. I washed them and plan to use them, I don't think its a big a deal. Like pp said most baby stuff is BPA free these days anyway.

  • I was given some of the same things and they are a brand I have never heard. Im not going to use them because I prefer that all my bottles and pacis be Dr. Browns.
  • Thanks, ladies, I kind of figured it'd be fine. I'm aiming to NOT be one of those crazy moms who ends up putting her kid in a bubble because she sanitizes them to death, so sometimes I just need a little reality check :
  • I'm pretty sure I will be a crazy mom!  I would be a little concerned if the items were cheapy Chinese brands.  To be honest, if I didn't know for sure, I probably wouldn't use them.

  • Most things made for babies are made without BPA anymore.  If it were me - I'd look on the products for a name/brand and Google to see the composition.  If I couldn't find it - I'd probably get rid of it.  Better safe than sorry!

  • Also - depends on how "crazy" you want to be.  I personally would be considered "crazy"... I do not microwave anything plastic.  Ever.  Even to sterilize.
