1 year Dr. Appt- Vaccinations

We have the 1 year check-up appt with the doctor next week and I am feeling anxious about the shots.  What vaccinations are your children getting at 1 year?  Did you wait to do the MMR?  Thanks for any information!  I am new at this and I am getting a lot of mixed messages from people all around me.

Re: 1 year Dr. Appt- Vaccinations

  • Our 1 year appt is next week. My son will be getting all the suggested vaccines including MMR.

While I understand some people have fear about vaccines. They have been used for a long time. I had vaccines you had vaccines and I think all this delayed or no vaccines is nonsense. This is why we are seeing the resurgence of childhood illnesses.

  • He was scheduled for the MMR, varicella and the PCV.

He got the MMR and the varicella an the first part of the flu shot. He will get the PVC and booster next month.

I was concerned about getting too many shots all at once and this is what the pedi said they do anyways when the flu shot is given with vaccines.

He had no reaction to any of them. Actually, he has usually been pretty fussy the day of shots and this was the first time he completely acted normal and it didnt bother him later in the day. And to top it off, he slept through the night that night which doesn't happen too often! Very thankful!

ETA: I wasn't concerned about the vaccines, just the number of shots. Just to clarify!

Yup, we stick with the recommended vaccine schedule. LO just had his check up and shots today. He also got his first dose of the Flu.

Also, another reason why some of these diseases are coming back is that experts are finding that as adults, some vaccines need a booster. This happened to our neighbor with Whooping Cough.

  • DS will get whatever his pedi has scheduled. I'd rather him get a vaccine then get mumps, or measles, or something equally nasty and uncomfortable (and potentially lethal).

  • Our pedi said that usually the one year shots (MMR and Varicella) don't give any reactions...so we are doing that with the second flu shot.Poor baby, but it is necessary. We decided to schedule for Dec 1 because we are going to Disney ifor Thanksgiving (yay!)

We vaccinate on time, every time. She even got the 2nd round of the flu vaccine at her 1 year appointment, so 4 shots total. IMO, there's no reason to wait and make her come in again so that she's not getting so many shots at once unless they've had previous reactions. I say rip off that bandaid and get it done! Why would I make her cry a 2nd time? She'll be just as pissed if you stick her with one needle as she will when you stick her twice or 3 or 4. I know some people like to wait, but to me having to take time off work to come in twice, just to make her cry again, does nobody any good. Personal opinion. I know some gals on here like spreading them out. I just don't get it.

I do agree with this even though I said I didn't want him to get 4 shots. If he didnt have to go back for the booster, he probably would have gotten them all at once.

  • DD2 will get all her scheduled vaccines and the flu shot.  I will not wait on the MMR, Minnesota has had quite a few Measles outbreaks in the last few years.

  • We don't go until the end of the month, but we have always (and plan to continue) to do everything on time as recommended.  She'll also get the 2nd dose of the flu shot.  The 1st dose she didn't even cry (and she has a low pain threshold like me and has cried at all other shots!).  I agree with PPs about making a second trip for extra tears, I'd much rather get it all done at once! :)

  • I'm glad to hear that they split them if they do the flu vaccine. I'm not 100% certain she needs that one, but I will go by the pedi's suggestion. But if she gets it I would rather she not have so many at once. She gets the most horrendous knots in her thighs from the shots.

  • We just had dd's one year on Wednesday and she got her chicken pox and pneumonia shot. She had a bad reaction to the chicken pox shot and was a miserable baby! Her leg bothered her so much she refused to walk. So my tip for you is give tylenol before the appointment and then we did every 4 hours for 24 hours. She is back to her happy self today but yesterday was so sad!
