when did u tell your toddler u was pregnant?

i have a 3 year old child and a baby that is due june 8,2013. everyone knows that i am pregnant except my daughter, my husband and i both know we need to tell her im just not sure when its a good time to tell her. ive asked her if she would like a brother or sister and of course she said yes and has changed it from sister to brother several times. when is it a good time to tell her? my first appointment is the 21 of november for a ultra sound which she will be there also with my aunt.

We just told our boys this week. We waited until after our first u/s. I sort of feel like it is a little soon because May is such a long way off, but it is out in the open now and really hard for people not to mention. My boys will be 3 (Dec) and 5 (Jan).

Like I said May is a long way off for a 3 year old. He wants to take the baby out so he can hold it, and wants to know if he/she can come to his birthday party.

The first few days there were a lot of baby comments but it has died down some.

Edit: We had a miscarriage in March at 10weeks. We had not told them about that baby. There were warning signs of a miscarriage.

We told our 3 2 yr old before anyone else at 12wks We felt they deserved knowing first they loved telling others

DS *knows* (we had him tell my parent's and DH's parents that he was going to be a "big brother) but I don't really think he *gets* it yet.

As I get bigger I will explain that I have a baby in my belly. And as we get closer to to May, I'm going to get him a book or two about being a big brother.

my husband and i decided that we are gonna tell her so that when i go for my ultra sound she will understand better, great idea about the books didnt think about that one.

I told my girls when I was 22 weeks. Your child is 3. She has no sense of time. The more you talk about something, the more likely she will start to be indifferent to it, tune you out, etc. We don't start talking about Christmas presents and Santa in June to prepare for Christmas in December. I would wait until much later unless she starts asking about your growing belly. I know too many people who had to "untell" their child and it was horrible.

I told my son at about 8 weeks, I was so sick that I did not want him to be scared. So I found a picture of a newborn baby online, pulled out my pregnancy pictures from my pregnancy with him, and showed him that Mommy's belly would get big like this, because I had a little baby inside. He loved it! He would come up to me and give the belly a hug and a kiss and point and say baby. Now we know the name, so when we sit he will come up and say hi to him, and put his hand on my belly to feel him kick. And talk to him.

I told DD when I was about 7 weeks. I'm about 10 weeks now. I'm super sick and exhausted, and I didn't want to scare her. I don't think she really "gets" it, though, because it's not like I'm showing or anything. She did, however, spill the news to our nanny, so maybe she is thinking about it. DH and I decided to not mention it for a while because we don't want her telling everyone.

We told DD1 right away because we used big sister shirts to tell our family. However we really didn't give her any details. Lucky for us SIL was pg at the same time and had my neice when I was 5 months. It was a great way for DD1 to understand it. We just told her that soon she was going to have a baby come live at her house the same way her cousins did.
