Help me - I'm in nap hell!

So my boys are 11 (almost 12) weeks old (7 weeks adjusted) and since they came home we've had them sleeping in their RnP's in our living room for naps.  We generally put them in the RnP's and rock them in those until they fall asleep.  Suddenly in the last few weeks since they've been more aware of their surroundings it is getting harder and harder for them to fall asleep during the day down there.  I think because it is light and they are looking at everything.

My problem is that their room is upstairs and I have tried making it dark in there but then I have to sit in their dark room rocking them for 30 minutes before they fall asleep.  Plus it is so hard lugging them both up and down the stairs all day.  I don't want to let them scream when I put them down so I just don't know what to do.  We loosely follow the EASY method.  Any advice?  I know I need to change my routine I just don't know to what. Help!!!

  • We had ours sleeping in their Snugabunny seats until 5 weeks when they started doing the same thing, just way more into looking around and not sleeping as well.  It worked really well for us to put them in the same crib, swaddled.  We always put them down awake from the beginning, so I'm not sure how that would work for you if they just cry when you put them down.  If you don't think they will sleep well enough in their cribs yet, maybe move the RNPs up to their room?  As far as taking them up and down all day, I think that's just reality if you want them to sleep in their room.  I looked at all of my trips as good exercise!  It's hard, especially with sleep because you can second guess EVERYTHING you do, I'm doing that right now with fighting 45 minute naps..... good luck!

  • Mine boycotted the RnPs quickly at around 6 weeks. Can you put a PnP downstairs? In a dark area? We put ours by the dryer in the laundry room. It's dark, warm the dryer lulls them to sleep. Ours are 10.5 weeks old. Works great for us. Good Luck!

  • Thanks for the tips!  We live in a townhouse so our downstairs is pretty much all one room and the curtains don't block out the light.  I might have to bite the bullet and buy room darkening shades for the living room or just make the trips up and down (you're so right, good exercise!).  This afternoon I made sure to try to keep them awake a full 1.5 hours and now just put them down in their dark room with the white noise machine and it sound quiet - hallelujah!  Hoping it lasts!  I wonder if I was just trying to put them down too early?  I would LOVE to get them to do the drowsy but awake put down without having to rock them so I hope this works!!  I wrote this this morning in a moment of panic and am feeling much better now. Thanks again!

  • we lucked out and got our boys to nap on a pnp in the living room through talking, tv, with lights on or daylight. Even their room gets light in it, and I turn a light on after their dinner btl so they don't think it is bedtime. We didn't move them to their room until 4 mos, but it is a pita to carry them up and down 3 times (sometimes more) a day.

drowsy but awake is hard with two. I usually wait until the first has rubbed his eyes a few times. Then I hold him in my lap for maybe 5 mins then put both down. Mine don't like EASY. They play, eat, play, sleep. So my me times is during naps.

  • I was really hoping mine would be able to stay in the living room for a while too since it is so much easier but they just seemed to be looking at everything instead of sleeping.  Did you block off the pack n play so they couldn't see into the room?  What do you guys do if they start crying when you lay them down?  Do you pick up put down, shhh pat, or something else?  They have still just been fighting so hard going to sleep!
