C-sections

Recovery of second....

Ok I'm scheduled for my second c section in a week and a half and I am beyond freaked out! Both about actual surgery and recovery......I know everyone is different but my first was such a horrible recovery I'm dreading the same with this one. Yes my first was not scheduled but necessary.......help ease my fears please! TIA!

Re: Recovery of second....

  • my first wasnt scheduled my second was but DS showed up early (still a RCS just wasnt planned for that day lol).  My recovery from the first was great and so was my second.  My c-sections were 22 months apart.  Was there something in particular that made your first difficult?

  • Yeah I pushed all day and t 11:30pm dr decided c section. Epidural was reset three times and didn't really work till next morning. No balance as my body was just exhausted walking on my own wasn't doable for a while.....
  • that was something very out of the ordinary--you're gonna be much happier this time around!  :-)

  • I absolutely loved my RCS.  It went so smooth and was such a relaxed atmosphere.  Recovery was a breeze.  I am 3 weeks PP and I don't feel like I had surgery at all.  I was off of all pain meds by day 5.

  • I've had all great recoveries, but my last one (my 4th) was the easiest.

  • Just think of everything you went through leading up to the first c. I'm willing to bet you went in to it exhausted, scared and probably in pain. That's a lot to put your body through AND THEN top it off with surgery. I went through 18 hours of labor and pushing prior to my first c. My epi was not placed well and I felt a lot more than I should have. I had a really rough recovery. Didn't feel close to normal for about 8 weeks. My second was scheduled. I went in to it from a much better place. Well rested, knowing what to expect, a bit nervous but much more relaxed and I think that made all the difference (along with a perfectly placed spinal). My experience was totally different from the first. My delivery could not have been more perfect and recovery was a breeze. I was feeling good by the time I was discharged (2 days later) and felt great after a couple days at home. I have nothing but positive memories.

  • my first was emergency Csection. It went really well and I had a great recovery. I didn't take medication once I was home and felt pretty dang good.

This time was RCS. It went well and I was up again the next morning and went home in two days. I have healed really well and I am able to be mommy to both my kiddos. I am still taking my pain meds, once or twice a day. I think this is due to the fact that I am so active b/c of DD#1 that I am just staying sore longer or the soreness is just harder to deal with b/c I am not just sitting around like I did when I had #1.

I will say knowing what I was getting into this time made the Csection much more enjoyable. We were actually laughing and joking during my surgery.

  • I was scared too but it wasn't that bad.  I also knew to advocate for myself better in the hospital and at home.  I was too proud to ask for help/pain management options the first time.  This time, totally happy to ask.  Good luck!
