As of today, my doctor told me not to work for remainder of pregnancy. I called HR about the short term disability. I just wondered if anyone on here has experience with this and could give me an overview.
thanks!

I went on a sick leave for my first and did that throught EI. Not sure how the short term disability works. But I was on Sick leave for a month and half before baby number 1 was born then EI all I had to do was call EI and let them know I had her and they rolled me to Mat leave. This didn't effect my full year and all I had to give was a doctor note.
I don't have a clue about STD, but Mat leave - you have to have worked for 26 weeks in order to qualify, you must apply for it (and apply for parental leave at the same time - just trust me on this one), and you must apply before baby is a certain age (17 weeks?) old. Plus you only get 55% of of your previous salary on mat leave.
Honestly, if you can, go in to a Service Canada location and chat with the folks there. That's what I did and it was the best thing, because they told me all the ins and outs and everything. Good luck!

same here... On sick leave feb to may then mat leave June 2012 to June 2013
mat leave IS EI with a different term.. any kind of leave is EI with a different name. You can still qualify to receive EI benefits if you need to take mat leave early. and you can always get extended leave as well.
TTC since May 2012;
BFP July 31st, 2012; EDD April 13th, 2013
You apply for sick leave through EI and once lo arrives you'll need to contact them and file for maternity and parental leave. There won't be a two week wait for mat leave with EI because you'll gave fulfilled it with your sick leave. You'll have to talk to your benefits coordinator at work to see if your insurance has std or ltd, often this is eligible if you have coverage. STD and LTD is seperate from EI.
