What is RPL testing?

I have seen this term referenced a few times below relating to losses and chemical pregnancies.  Could some please explain it to me?  Thank you!

Re: What is RPL testing?

  • I think it means recurring pregnancy loss testing.

  • RPL - Recurrent Pregnancy Loss.  There is a panel of tests that can be done to help identify what may be causing miscarriages.  I don't have the full list, but it includes several genetic tests, blood clotting disorders, antibodies, and a few others.  It helps to rule things out in determining the cause for losses.

  • I think it can vary from doctor to doctor, but I was tested for glucose, auto-immune, clotting, and thyroid issues (in addition to the thyroid testing I had done with our initial consult).  As part of the panel, Dh and I both had karyotyping (genetic testing) done as well.

I had to give 13 vials of blood, DH only had to give one, and our results took a little over 2 weeks to come back because of the genetic testing.  Fortunately, everything came back normal, but that means we still have no real explanation for our losses.
