DS used to be pretty good about taking liquid meds orally via syringe. Not anymore, he spits it out. We tried the little cups that come with it, that was a no go too. Suggestions?? I had a relative tell me to put it in juice or something, but he never drinks all of his sippy so that wouldn't work.
"You get in the bowl."
Re: How to get toddler to take liquid meds
This may be a little bit much, but this is coming from a mom who has to give medicine all the time.. .
we use to go through hell giving our son (3 y/o) liquid meds. We frequently give him Benadryl due to allergic reactions and if we run out of the chewable tablets (which is often) we have to give him the liquid and it use to be a fight every time.
This is what we do now - I put my arm around him and almost pin him against me, holding his chin. I have the liquid med dispenser with a pointy front (not round) b/c he closes his teeth and i can't get it in there, the pointy one goes through his teeth and i always squirt it to the side of his mouth.. if you squirt it in the front, he will spit it out.. when you do it to the side of the mouth he will most likely swallow all or most of it.
They showed me this in the ER b/c he was having a reaction and wouldn't let us give him medicine and it was getting pretty bad so we took him to the ER and instead of putting him on steroids, they showed us how to give him liquid medicine. It use to take us 20 minutes with a fight and now it takes me 10 seconds and it's done before he can throw a fight. I always have a lolly pop waiting so it never becomes a fight after.
good luck!
