Birthday party?

My daughter will be 3 in a few weeks, and we'd like to do a party for her. I'm struggling with who to invite. There are 14 kids in her daycare class and we'd also invite some of our close friends with young children. Even if only half of them were able to come, that's still a lot of little kids. I really don't want to invite her entire class. I'd rather just invite the few kids she talks about outside of school. Do you think that's okay or would it be considered poor etiquette?

    check with the director on protocol. my LO's school say it's OK to invite who you want, some require you invite everyone. i invited about half her class last year and they all showed! i'm only inviting the ones she always talks about this time.

    we've never done daycare but last year's preschool didnt have a protocol, this year's does.  I've found that only about 10% of those invited dont make it

    Thanks for the input. I'll check with our director tonight to see if there is a protocol for parties. I really hope it's not a whole class thing. I can't imagine having a party with that many kids!

    Yeah, I too would have a hard time thinking a school would want to try and dictate who you could invite to your own party. They may have rules about handing out invitations in school unless everyone is invited, but I doubt they'd go beyond that.

    I would invite who you'd like or who your DD is closest to. DS turns 4 in January and there is no way we're inviting his entire class.

    its not that they say who you can/can't have at the party--our school's rule is you cant hand out invitations unless they are for the whole class;  what you do outside of school is up to you

    We just had DS's party and only invited 1 boy from preschool who he talked about ALL THE TIME! There were already 9 kids on the invite list so it would have been impossible to invite all of the preschool kids. Also, everyone we invited came to the party.
