Here's for a Thursday random..
Here is MS we have one abortion clinic. It's in the capital city which I live about 15 minutes from. This week there has been a pro life group handing out phamplets to teenagers at some of the higher risk schools in the capital city.
From what I've heard and read, it's simply a pro life group handing out phamplets with information on abortion and choices for pregnancy. Some teenagers have refused the phamplets while others take, so they aren't being forced to take anything.
Thoughts?
Re: Would this upset you?
This. I think that handing out information that informs women of all their options is all well and good, when it's reliable, unbiased information.

Yeah I mean if it's just information about ways to prevent pregnancy and alternative options to abortion I don't think it's a huge deal since they don't seem to be pushy. If they are pamphlets with pictures of dead babies then yes.
Edited because I used the wrong word.
I agree. Usually the pamphlets are full of scare tactics, graphic images, and inaccurate information. I would have a problem with someone giving my under aged child something like that without my knowledge or permission. Is it just an abortion clinic or some place like Planned Parenthood? I'm sure PP would have better information to give out about preventing and avoiding unwanted pregnancies than a prolife group would. Places like PP's main goal is not to preform abortions, but provide women with information and health care.
This. There is a lady in our town who used to drive around a big vehicle with pictures of aborted fetuses all over it. She would park it all the mall, local restaurants etc. She would hand out literature etc. I am pro-life and I was and still am adamantly against this. Children should not have to see this crap. I don't want to see this crap. Eventually she got banned from driving her vehicle within city limits. (A lot of the people who helped get this banned are pro-life Christians.)
If they are handing out pamphlets letting kids know about alternatives to abortion, I don't think it's an issue. Even if it's biased, I would be okay with it but not if it's graphic or pushy. Handing out a pamphlet is a lot different than telling girls they'll go straight to hell for this/or showing inappropriate pictures. Then again, my opinion may be a little biased since I am pro-life so take my opinion for what it is.
It's just one of those things that I could see so many potential good and bad things so I find other opinions interesting!
I agree. I'm also pro life but I HATE the scare tactics. I've seen several protests where groups line the highways with those horrible pictures.
I think if a group is pro life and handing out informative information, great. But I would have a problem with graphic images and guilt trip being pushed at someone. Like I said, I guess it's too hard to have real opinions unless you actually see the information that's handed out.
I have seen a lot of these pamphlets, my brother(8 kids) used to do pro-life marches. The ones he handed out talks about what happened at the different weeks of gestation throughout pregnancy, and how the baby is alive with a beating heart. It also talked about adoption. His didn't say anything about religion or sin. ( or pics of dead babies, that is awful)
I was 19 when I got PG with Oliver. We ended up going to a life care center for a free pregnancy test. This center was pro-life and they offered prenatal care for those who needed it. I did not go back after the free test but they did give me pamphlets about pregnancy(like what my brother handed out). They also said if I needed someone to talk to they would be there.
In my situation getting an abortion would have been the easy way. We came from upper middle class families and having a child would not have been a financial burden. My fears were the responsibility of having a child and having to tell our parents. We were scared sh!tless and abortion was discussed. Our decision didn't lead us down an easy path but it was the right decision for us.
I think that letting kids know that if things don't go as planned there are other options besides abortion is not a bad thing.
These people are not being confrontational, they are just handing pamphlets out. I mean look at all the pamphlets people hand out on the Vegas Strip.
Um, this exactly.
I'm offended by that in general, as I am by people picketing Planned Parenthood and clinics offering abortions.
I think there is enough information out there about pro-lifers opening their sham clinics for pregnant teens that I don't believe any information they'd be handing out to teenagers would be accurate or fair.
This.
