DS will not tell his teacher he has to go. Consequently he goes on himself at least once a week. However, when's he's at home he will tell us he has to go. I am at a loss as to what to do to get him to tell his teacher he has to go. Any advice?
If he's in school for half day or less, just make sure he goes right before school. Or, better yet, you take him at school. Being uncomfortable with asking to go potty at school isn't that unusual.
If he's in full day school, perhaps the teacher can just tell him to go at a certain time, like after recess or before snack, or something. Most preschools have a mandatory hand-washing time, and kids are encouraged to potty at that time. If your son's school has a time like this, tell your son he has to go at that time every single day, so that he doesn't hold it until he has an accident.
DS does this as well. I think part of it is that there's so much going on and he's having too much fun to bother to go. I take him as soon as I drop him off and have asked his teachers to bring him to the potty during their break even if he says he doesn't have to go. So far he's only had 1 accident since eary Sept. He goes 2.5 hrs 3x a week.
