So we saw the ENT yesterday. As he was evaluating CK's ears, we learned she has yet ANOTHER double-ear infection. This is number 5 in 6 months, during the weather when kids are supposed to be LESS prone to ear infections. He also told us that her current hearing is as muffled as it sounds when you stick your fingers in your ears (because of the fluid and recurring infections), which broke my heart.
Needless to say, she'll be having surgery next Thursday to have tubes put in. While I know it's the best decision for her in the long-run, my heart aches thinking about handing her off to a doctor and her going under anesthesia.
Re: CK scheduled for ear tube surgery.
My cousin had the same problem but they didn't know for years. Once it was discovered, they got tubes right away. After surgery, they were talking to him and he said "hey your voice changed!" And hearing himself say that, he said "hey my voice changed too!" Due to his muffled hearing, he was unable to pronounce words correctly because when talked to, he couldn't hear them correctly. There were some words we would say and he could look at us strange because he thought we were now saying the word in a weird way, even though he was just hearing it differently. Once his hearing was better though, he was able to correct his speech.
So on the plus side, even though CK has to go through this, at least she will feel better and she will hear words correctly instead of muffled!

Poo Mama! I'm sure CK is going to be fine, and won't even remember the surgery the day after. But it's got to be stressful for you!
Good luck! It's going to be awesome for her when she feels better AND can hear clearly!
