Excursions - Mexico Babymoon

Anyone have any suggestions of what DH and I can do when in Mexico for 4 full days?? I cannot wait to get my pasty Wisconsin skin into the sun and enjoy the beach but hubby can't ever sit still. We have decided to do 2 excursions. Not sure what would be safest - we plan on snorkeling near the resort. I would like to see Tulum ruins and was thinking of doing the cheesy dolphin thing. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the Apple excursions and what would be good/fun/easy to do. I'll be 18 weeks.

  • Cheesy dolphin thing was one of the best experiences of my life. Take it easy in the sun as your pregnant skin can be more sensitive and burn easily. Enjoy. It sounds like fun. I'll try not to be too jealous.

  • We used Apple Vacations for our honeymoon to the Dominican Republic in November 2010 and won?t travel out of the country any other way. We loved them. There was 1 excursion we wanted to do that was offered through another resort, but not through Apple. Apple suggested not to do that because no one would know if we were gone and never returned and if we found out we were charged too much when we got home, no one would be able to help refund us. Stick with Apple if they are who you are booking through for your trip and only meet with them on your resort. I personally would not feel comfortable going out of the country while pregnant, but that?s just me. I would consult with your doctor on what would be safe to do and what you guys should stay away from. Hopefully your husband will want to relax on the beach with you and spend as much quality time together as possible before life takes off for you guys when the baby gets here. Enjoy your vacation and the sun!

I did speak with my doctor before we booked the trip. She said as long as I stay with the bottled water and away from random vendor food carts I should be fine.

I def think we'll do the dolphin thing as it's been highly recommended. I probably just won't do the foot push version.

DH's company party is the Saturday after we get back - looking forward to really glowing! :)

  • I went to the Bahamas last year and they wouldn't let me do the dolphin thing because I was pregnant.  Just a heads up.  It's probably because of the liability but I wouldn't count on being able to do it.

I was in Mexico for a week when I was about 14 weeks and talked to our travel guy at the resort. He told us that because I was pregnant I couldn't do the dolphin excursion, but it was because dolphins can hear the second heartbeat and it makes them act a little bit weird and unpredictable because they don't understand. It was pretty interesting to me.

ETA: We did a combined Tulum and Coba ruins tour and DH loved it because at Coba you can actually climb the ruins whereas at Tulum you can't, but Tulum has an incredible beach, where you climb down a lot of stairs and swim. It was a pretty great trip, but by the time we got to Tulum it was way too hot.

  • When I was 5 months in Cuba, they wouldn't let me do the dolphin excursion.  Liability reasons, as the dolphin is a wild animal and unpredictable.  Just read all the print.  Have fun!!!!

Don't forget to avoid ice in drinks either!  That one killed me on our honeymoon.

Have fun and I am super jealous!
