Convertible Carseat?!

Hey ladies!

I know i'm a little late, but i'm finally going to purchase the convertible carseat for my son. They say that the 1st carseat was good up to 30lbs, and although he isn't 30 lbs, he is just about 30 inches, so I need to upgrade.

I'm finding this to be a little overwhelming when it comes to choosing the "right" carseat! I looked at a few and the Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 series, is one of my favorites, but i just don't know if it's the right one. Did any of you have trouble choosing a carseat? How did you make your decision?

I know i'm blowing this out of proportion. It's just a car seat for crying out loud. Anywho, what carseat is your LO riding in these days?

Re: Convertible Carseat?!

  • Do you need RF? Because the nautilus is only FF. I have a nautilus and love it. We plan on getting one or two more for when ds2 needs one.

  • He is currently 15 months so I'm thinking I can go to a FF if need be.

  • I have the nautilus for my older DD who is 3 and she sits FF. I actually have the Graco my ride 65 for DD#2 (who is only 7 months old) and she is RF. I actually plan to keep her RF until 2 (or very close to it). I know my pedi now recommends that we keep LO RFing until 2.

  • My pediatrician was just talking to me about that as well. Do you all have any recommendations of chairs that go from RF to FF?

    What size is your vehicle??

I have the Graco myride 65 in my Honda Pilot. This car seat is big, but I love it because it has two cup holders, good for paci's cups, food, etc (when she gets older). My oldest was riding in this car seat until we got her the Nautilus.  In my hubby's car we still have the infant seat, we are still researching car seats for his car. He drives a 2 door honda accord coupe and it's has tiny bucket seats. We need something slim and I'm not having much luck.

We have 2 Graco MyRide 65s, 1 for each car.  The RF limit is high (40 lbs), so that's a great perk.  Judith will be 2 in a little more than a month, and she is still RF and will remain that way until she's at least 2 adjusted, hopefully a lot longer until she reaches the seat's limit.  The 65s fit well in smaller cars, and they're relatively easy to install.  There are other seats on the market that also have high RF limits, but the 65s aren't as pricey.

This is us, too. We intend to RF until at least 2 years old, probably longer. It fits well our midsize SUV and midsize sedan.

  • We have a Britax Boulevard in my car and are really happy with it.  It is super easy to install and adjust and my LO seems very comfy in it.  It does have a shorter shell than some others on the market, but my LO is short so it shouldn't be an issue,  We have our infant seat in my H's car and will keep it there until she outgrows it since she doesn't ride there as often.  We do plan to keep her RF as long as possible.  It is safer for them and with her height and weight I have a feeling we can keep her that way for a long time.

  • We have the Britax Marathon 70 and the Britax Blvd 70 CS in our two cars.  We plan to RF until at least 3, and I will go longer as long as we doesn't mind.  He currently doesn't know the difference and has plenty of room to grow.

Once we FF it goes until 70 pounds, so the car seat will expire before he outgrows the limit.

  • DD is in a Britax Boulevard 70 in my car and I LOVE it.  She is 2.5, 34lbs, and is still comfortably RFing and will continue to do so until she hits the limit.

We have an Evenflo Triumph (?) in DH's car and I don't like it.  I think she fits weird in it and her head flops down when she falls asleep.  For long trips we take DH's car and put the Britax in.

I think that a great carseat is well worth the money.  I love bargain shopping and getting deals, but this is not something I sale shop for.

  • Thanks everyone for your input! I plan on making the purchase next week, and i'm still on the fence about RF and FF. I'm hoping I can make a decision by then. I will be looking up all of the carseats you mentioned.

    Thanks again!!!
